Lovely Mark.  A very different view of the Jenolan Caves. Really like the reflections.

Seems we've been to the same places, again.  I used to book myself in for a couple of days to enjoy the mysteries of the caves, and just to get away.

Keep 'em coming we want this as a permanent fixture.

All the best to you mate, Dave S

Geoff,

I was on your link "Landscape pano": great stuff, impressive and beautiful!

Dee,

your meaningful series of tree trunks is great. The B&Ws provide a strong atmosphere.

Mark,

very nice frames!. The reflected greenery of Jenolan Caves is very beautiful and being a tranquil place for recreation.

Les...

What a lovely Snow Gum image. Nice processing with the stark, white-bleached wood. I wonder how old these trees can be?

Mark...

Superb impressions of Uluru, again. I think the second mysterious image is my fav; a different perspective from the million pictures of Uluru.

cheers  Dave S

Les,

Really excellent snow gum, subject and photo, one of the very best of the genre I have seen!

Mark,

Your Jenolan Caves shot and the first Uluru image are quite marvellous, you have somehow managed to achieve a pov for both shots which makes these icons seem completely fresh...

not a hint of tourism about them...and that's not easy to achieve!  Also the Uluru sunset is beautifully subtle and the three b&ws are superb. Great work!

Is it time to ask whether you need to be Australian to find this landscape beautiful?

Ribbony gum trees, basalt rocks and sheep.

An imposing  grandeur in this one Dee. Love the mix of textures. And the bemused sheep.

"Is it time to ask whether you need to be Australian to find this landscape beautiful?"

You are so right Dee.  I'm sure our strange flowers and deserts leave many Internationals cold.  My mother, born in Australia, loves gardens but won't give Australian flowers a second glance.

Do they just go to Uluru because it's on the tourist route?

cheers  Dave S :)

if they can avoid their main threat (fire) and are located in a sheltered position, Snow Gums can live for many hundreds of years.

The main trunk of this giant (in full flower!!) is just under two metres diameter, so it is very, very old.  Fitzgerald's Hut is a former cattlemen's hut in the Bogong High Plains, just near Falls Creek.

35/2 ASPH, Fuji Superia (not my favourite film).  Apologies for the scratches - that processing lab did not get a second chance.

Another very long-lived Snow Gum.

Tawonga Huts are located in the Bogong High Plains, and used intermittently in the summer by horsemen (and women) while rounding up Brumbies.

28/2.8 ASPH, Kodak Portra (outdated)

Amazing trees Les, especially the striped trunks of the Snow Gums.
