TheGodParticle/Hari Posted September 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Unfortunately my Q displays this error after which the camera is unresponsive. I have to turn it off and turn it back on after which it works for a few minutes (1-2minutes) and displays the error message again and becomes unresponsive. This happens when the camera is switched on, it has no connection to whether I'm taking pictures or not. It was displaying this error message so I turned the O.I.S. on which then resulted in this error message: Any idea what's happening and what the fix is? A full factory reset did not help, Firmware version is 1.

sturkel Posted September 25, 2015 Share #6 Posted September 25, 2015 Very concerning for sure. This is a new problem as far as I have seen. Looks to be hardware as it works for a couple of minutes. I suspect you have a hardware issue that will need to have the camera serviced/replaced. So sorry for the news.
TheGodParticle/Hari Posted September 25, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted September 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) All my Leica bodies have typically been rock solid, they hardly ever let me down. I'll treat this as a freak incident and drive down to Wetzlar tomorrow morning - hope the friendly people are around and hope the fix is quick. Else, hope they have a loaner for me till my camera is fixed / replaced. I've only had it for two days but i'm really loving it!
jaapv Posted September 25, 2015 Share #8 Posted September 25, 2015 Let's hope they'll replace it. As they should.
TheGodParticle/Hari Posted September 25, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted September 25, 2015 Let's hope they'll replace it. As they should. I will ask for a replacement and hope the replaced camera doesn't have any of the "known errors"!
lucerne Posted September 25, 2015 Share #10 Posted September 25, 2015 There were some reports of this warning when starting the new camera straight from the box. The error message disappeared eventually but it was put down to the battery being in sufficiently charged. As a last resort before returning the camera, I would suggest pre-setting the lens to AF, the shutter to A, and the aperture to A. Use a completely different SDcard. Switch on and see if the camera gets past that error message. Good luck.

lucerne Posted September 26, 2015 Share #12 Posted September 26, 2015 (edited) I've continued to search the Internet and have unfortunately discovered that the message " system error OIS" was a problem found on Panasonic models fitted with the lens OIS system. Symptoms are precisely as you have described. It may be a coincidence, but it may indicate that Leica has shared technology with Panasonic. It seems like you will have to return the camera. Sorry! ---------------- These messages normally appear on the LCD screen when a mechanical malfunction occurs on a Panasonic Lumix camera. They are fatal errors, and will not allow the camera to continue operating, it must be restarted. Below I’ll detail fixes for the different messages: “System Error” This is a generic error, and can be caused by a sensor error (lens barrel gearbox or extend sensor, O.I.S sensor (Optical Image Stabilizer), software error, or a loose connection inside the camera, there are several ribbon cables connecting the lens motors, sensors and the CCD sensor unit to the main control board. http://tidelog.kitamuracomputers.net/tag/system-error-o-i-s-panasonic-lumix-camera/ Edited September 26, 2015 by lucerne

It is indeed well known that the camera uses many components built by Panasonic.
sturkel Posted September 26, 2015 Share #16 Posted September 26, 2015 Here is another comment on the OIS error, based on the panasonic. Seems this is a bit common in same cases. "This error is for the optical image stabilization. Generally the camera should be ok after your turn it on and off again. The error you are getting is because either the OIS has malfunctioned or is stuck.I suggest that you take out its memory stick, the battery etc and keep the camera like that for about 15 minutes. Then only reinsert the battery (fully Charged) and try to power on. Try a little tap ( but not too hard) on the side of the camera....this might realign if the OIS has got misaligned. If you are lucky, you would get if fixed."
TheGodParticle/Hari Posted September 26, 2015 Author Share #17 Posted September 26, 2015 I'm in Wetzlar as I write this message and spoke at length to the ever friendly and helpful colleagues here - they have not encountered this problem before and have taken my camera in for examination. I did show them this thread so they are keeping this info in their mind. In the meanwhile I got a display unit to play with till Monday so I can indulge in doing Qool things over the weekend

pico Posted September 26, 2015 Share #19 Posted September 26, 2015 Panasonic firmware? I wonder if that means it can be hacked. .
TheGodParticle/Hari Posted September 26, 2015 Author Share #20 Posted September 26, 2015 Is this the only unit where the digital crop doesn't stay to the selected value? I keep selecting 35mm and it either slips to 28mm or to 50mm by itself. I'm using a handgrip so the body is not bumping against anything.
