tadeyev Posted September 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, Is there something I am missing about the 500 piece edition Summicron 35mm in b. chrome with red markings? Otherwise it seems like a lot of extra money for some red ink ;-@) But it does look great.... Ciao Tadeyev
Advertisement Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Hi tadeyev, Take a look here Summicron 35mm special edition?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted September 18, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2015 It's a normal Summicron 35 asph with special finishing... red feet numbers are appealing... .. but probably the real value is in the metal hood and CAP (my plastic cap went lost rather quickly... ) if this worths 300 US$ around, is matter of taste : personally, should I think to buy a Summicron I'd seriously consider this alternative : but am not in this condition.. and moreover mine is chrome (on brass)...always the best... my rule is "black when no alternative"
wattsy Posted September 18, 2015 Share #3 Posted September 18, 2015 It isn't just red paint. It's also black chrome on a brass lens barrel plus you get a fancy lens hood and (even less useful) a very heavy solid brass lens cap. Personally speaking I prefer the brass bodied versions of this lens (the millennium edition black paint and regular silver chrome versions also use brass) but they all take the same photographs. Stealth3kpl Posted September 18, 2015 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2015 It isn't just red paint. I thought you were going to say it's Marks And Spencer's red paint

wattsy Posted September 19, 2015 Share #6 Posted September 19, 2015 Nice. Are you suggesting that the metal lens cap is useful?
Stein K S Posted September 19, 2015 Share #7 Posted September 19, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are you suggesting that the metal lens cap is useful? Hi i have two metal lens caps... one silver for my 50 Elmar-M and one black that followed the 28 Elmarit asph (strangely enough). While being nice to own, they are in my opinion useless in practice (outside the bag). So... agree Wattsy!
dot-me-not Posted September 19, 2015 Share #8 Posted September 19, 2015 Using B&H pricing, the black chrome version is about a $200 spiff over the silver version, both brass. So for $200 you get the metal lens hood and lens cap. Good luck finding one though. I think they're sold out.

Here's one, possibly the last new one left available in the UK, I cannot see any more available. I pre-ordered mine along with the 50mm when they were announced, beautiful lenses, though of course optically there is no difference between them and their standard counterparts. Simon Bee Posted September 28, 2015 Share #10 Posted September 28, 2015 I have just found another, so there are at least two remaining at UK dealers. Kind regards, Simon http://www.richardcaplan.co.uk/eCommerce/product.aspx?cat=26&prod=5250
Jeffry Abt Posted September 29, 2015 Share #11 Posted September 29, 2015 It is beautiful! It would look so fine on my M-P The folks at Leica break my heart sometimes.
semi-ambivalent Posted September 29, 2015 Share #12 Posted September 29, 2015 Are you suggesting that the metal lens cap is useful? It was a complement on your backhanded dismissal of the "fancy lens hood" by your dismissal of the lens cap. Is that not what you meant? regards, s-a

Is that not what you meant? Yes, I was certainly being dismissive. Sorry, I read your reply as sarcasm. :-)
