Advertisement Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Hi FixedGear, Take a look here Can I use a different lens hood on a Q?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Overgaard Posted November 13, 2016 Share #22 Posted November 13, 2016 I designed this ventilated hood for my Leica Q, and then when people started asking where to get it, I made so everybody can buy one :-) http://www.overgaard.dk/Thorsten-von-Overgaard-Gallery-Store-Hardware-for-Photography-LeicaQ-Typ116-Ventilated-Lens-Shade.html

Photon42 Posted November 13, 2016 Share #24 Posted November 13, 2016 Looks also like you need to remove it to add a / the lens cap.
Lucky Posted November 13, 2016 Share #25 Posted November 13, 2016 Sure, or you have to use an other cap but what is the purpose of a lens cap on a ventilated hood, keep the dust away???
Lucky Posted November 13, 2016 Share #26 Posted November 13, 2016 I saw this beauty on your website, is it much deeper than the original hood?

Overgaard Posted November 14, 2016 Share #28 Posted November 14, 2016 Looks also like you need to remove it to add a / the lens cap. I never use a lens cap on the original or this. I use a hood, and that's what protects the lens from scratches, bumps, etc. If you want to use a lens cap, either the original hood and metal cap, or a ventilated hood and a 49mm lens cap.

stevieboy Posted December 4, 2016 Share #35 Posted December 4, 2016 The original hood is designed to give the maximum shade for the lens. Form follows function.
Leica Guy Posted December 4, 2016 Share #36 Posted December 4, 2016 (edited) Personal preference. I like the existing Q hood just fine. Being careful, I can even turn a polarizer filter. I love the simplicity of it and no longer use a lens cap. I do keep a UV filter on most of the time to protect the lens. I love the simplicity of it and no longer use a lens cap. I do keep a UV filter on most of the time to protect the lens. I too use the uv for protection with the hood without a cap. (the hood is so tight, I hate to take it on and off). Do you use the polarizer over the uv filter and can you REALLY rotate the polarizer with the hood on? Leica Guy Posted December 5, 2016 Share #38 Posted December 5, 2016 I too use the uv for protection with the hood without a cap. (the hood is so tight, I hate to take it on and off). Do you use the polarizer over the uv filter and can you REALLY rotate the polarizer with the hood on? No, I remove the UV filter to install the polarizer. Yes, I can rotate it without getting fingerprints on the filter. I gave up using the lens cap after a very short time. It seemed unnecessary to me and some trouble. I also read about the interior deteriorating and decided to just store it away. I've never looked back.
Macberg Posted December 5, 2016 Share #39 Posted December 5, 2016 (edited) @Infiniumguy May I ask which polarizing filter you use? I ordered the B+W circular HTC MRC nano XS-Pro Digital and wondered whether I could use (turn) it with the original hood in its place. jaapv Posted December 5, 2016 Share #40 Posted December 5, 2016 Sure, or you have to use an other cap but what is the purpose of a lens cap on a ventilated hood, keep the dust away??? Indeed, but what is the purpose of a ventilated hood on the Q anyway? There is no viewfinder to block...
