Hey guys, just wonder if anyone here has ever disassembled / repaired a Summilux 50mm 1.4 ASPH (Chrome ver.)?

Mine's got a slight back-focus issue (actual focus is behind the subject).

I used to have a back-focusing pre-ASPH lux 50 which was cured by additional shims. Just wondering if the Lux 50 ASPH can be cured the same way (ie. are there shims between the optical unit and the focusing module as well?).

With the floating element in the ASPH I don't really know how to disassemble the lens...and instructions for this seems nowhere to be found online...

Anyway, all suggestions are welcome! :)

Thanks!

I agree with jdlaing and I would add that this particular design is especially complex. When mine was serviced by Leica Camera last year after an impact, it was explained to me that the lens was essentially rebuilt to achieve the accuracy and function standard.

Can I ask how much did it cost you? And roughly how long did it take? Many thanks.

Most repair shops won't even touch these lenses. The mechanical tolerances on the floating elements are 1/1000th mm. Even Leica struggles to get it right.

The focus module is not that precise.

As far as I know the ASPH version is no longer able to disassembled like the pre-asph, which is really sad.

Michael that lens repair was more than four years ago. I had dropped my camera onto stone surfaces when I tripped down some steps. Repairs were mostly covered by insurance.

if you have one in need of repair you should be able to request an estimate after initial inspection in Wetzlar. I sent my camera and lens to the national distributor here in Australia. From memory it took about 8 weeks to get back in total.

Many thanks for the detailed reply. Very helpful.

Call DAG (Don Goldberg) and discuss your issue with him.  Leica NJ could not fix the sticky focus action on my 50 Summilux ASPH, for any price, so I sent it to DAG. He had it back to me in a week working perfectly, for $90 including shipping.  Your situation may be different, but clearly worth a call.
