iRandom Posted August 9, 2019 Share #261 Posted August 9, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Peak Design also made a thinner cord version at one point but changed it since it failed on some large cameras. I've hoarded all the thin corded ones I have. Been using them for a while now with no signs of wear on the cord. I wish that Peak Design would acknowledge that not everyone uses professional DSLRs with 70-200 F2 lenses and continue to offer the thin cord version. Advertisement Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Hi iRandom, Take a look here What strap are you using for the Q? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pharyngula Posted August 9, 2019 Share #262 Posted August 9, 2019 I'm a big fan of Peak Design ever since I first started supporting them on Kickstarter very early on in their evolution. I've used probably every iteration of their anchors, the cuff, leash, slide (and their upgrades). I love the concept and the functionality but I wish they could come up with more attractive, less clunky-looking quick connectors. Ok, so I'm shallow when it comes to such things. Nevertheless, I keep coming back to the system and my Q2 is a case in point - I just removed my nice Angelo Pelle strap again last weekend and got out the dental floss to re-equip with PD anchors. There are just times when I want to quickly go with the Cuff or Leash, or nothing.... By the way, I just got a PD Everyday Sling 5L for my Q2 after much back and forth - I have to say, it really is one of the best designed bags for the way I shoot with the Q2 or an M. I'm really impressed with it.

So whether I'm looking for a simplified Q-P only day or, if I'm out shooting editorial/stock and need the extra range of the 24-105 it handles it all well... with batteries, filters and straps etc. Nice and comfortable. I knew it would serve a purpose one day😂 Although, I love the idea of using dental floss to pull it through!!! I thought i would made you a while to put both in T_T. jbripley Posted August 10, 2019 Share #266 Posted August 10, 2019 During a recent vacation trip I used the longer version of the Leica/COOPH rope strap (in blue), which is a lightweight and very comfortable strap. I usually use a combo of Peak Design cuff and leash in my day to day.

I was a little concerned as to whether the buckle part of the Peak Design system would mark the paint so added some very sticky flocking tape to the back of them. I've butchered my peak design strap, taking the buckles of it and attached them to my Luigi camera strap. It means I can use my favourite camera strap along with the Peak Design wrist strap. Happy with the outcome as it seems to match the Q-P nicely . Welcome, dear visitor! Do you have any step for step instructions how you customized your PD anchors to fit directly on the strap? Thinking how to do something similar to the COOPH rope strap. Thinking how to do something similar to the COOPH rope strap. It's been a while since I done it so can't remember exact details. The strap has a lot of extra length so I sacrificed the end bit. Before cutting anything though, there's a leather band that wraps around the end of it. You'll see it in my photo. Carefully pick at this to remove it from the strap (both sides). The side that has the adjustable buckle has the glued loop just by the buckle itself and has a couple of little sleeves which will just pull off. Once the glue sleeves are off, just cut the very ends off to minimise length lose. The buckle end. If you slacken the leather off the buckle you can pull the cut end through and leave the buckle in place. Pull the lose end through both sleeves... this will let you thread the Capture Peak buckle through that side. Once its in place, thread the end through both sleeves and back around the buckle. Make sure there is plenty of slack around the buckle so it doesn't get in the way with the glueing bit. Fold the leather back on itself by about an inch. Take some good leather glue and apply a bit to both sides of the strap that will be glued together. Use a cocktail stick or something so you can rub it into the leather a bit. Don't use too much on it otherwise it will squash out and make a mess. Leave it for a couple of minutes to get tacky before sticking both bits together. Just holding in place for a while with finger/thumb. Make sure not to have any glue on your fingers otherwise when you try to let go it will pull it apart as well as ,asking the leather. Give it 5-10 minutes and then stick the leather band back on. As before, small amount of glue on both sides, let it go tacky and then wrap the band back around and hold in place. It's a good idea to have a little cloth in place to wipe up any excess glue that may come out. The non adjustable side is exactly the same without the hassle of unthreading/threading the buckle. I've posted some pics below so you can see what mine looks like around the buckle and taped ends etc. It's easy enough, just need to take your time to make sure it sticks properly. Leave it at least 24 hours afterwards before using it though. Welcome, dear visitor! Is it something like this you are looking for? https://www.thephotographyteam.co.uk/product/khaki-green-marine-rope-camera-strap-peak-design-anchor/ I have the 120mm version in Black, makes a change from the PD leash or wrist cuff that I also use. If you want to try fitting to a strap yourself, anchor links and strap connectors are available from Amazon and others, no need to go butchering your peak design strap. That’s very close to what I was looking for. Too bad they’re sold out. I already have the COOPH rope strap though, which I really like and I was just thinking if I could do something creative to the ends of it to make it work with PD anchors. The rope strap ends in a regular ring connector so I was wondering if there’s some simple adapter that could be added in between the end the strap and the anchor. Welcome, dear visitor! May well be something.... though I'm not sure how successful it would be to add the strap connectors to the black leather stitched ends. A quick flea bay search showed up a Cordy Slim Rope strap with peak design anchors available quite cheaply.

Might be a long shot but, have you thought about asking your local cobbler whether they could do something for you. They'd have the equipment that could stitch leather so they may be able to help with a custom job!?!

I know a leather shop that I’ve used previously. I’ll just go there and ask them if they can make this end go into that end 🙂 Edited August 12, 2019 by jbripley

At least then you'll know the stitching will be strong and not putting the camera at risk. It probably wouldn't take them long either!
jeff_m Posted August 13, 2019 Share #275 Posted August 13, 2019 For those of you using the Peak Design anchors please only use the latest versions. The early style will fray and break. Peak Design is offering replacements if you have version 1 anchors.

Not to be too contrarian, but I’ve been using v3 with both my CL, Q and Q2 with zero issues and with no signs of fraying. I honestly think this is mostly a problem with more heavyweight cameras. I’ve received v4 replacement anchors and none of them fit any of the above cameras without the addition of using the accompanying triangle metal rings, which I’d rather avoid. I’ve seen some tips about using dental floss to be able to use the v4 directly on the Q2 and will try that.
