Exodies Posted August 8, 2015 Share #21 Posted August 8, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Of the Billingham bags, which material is most resilient, Nytex or canvas? The top corners of my Nytex Hadley small wore away after three months but as I like the bag very much I think of it as Kravitzing rather than a defect. Does anyone have a preference for one fabric? uhoh7 Posted August 9, 2015 Share #23 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) raven and ryker by unoh7, on Flickr Wotancraft Raven and Ryker 2 bodies in the smaller one Raven 2 Bodies by unoh7, on Flickr These are much cheaper than most of the really high end bags, and hold their value extremely well, as few are made. Quality is off the hook, and lining is microfibre. Zippers are guarded. The bigger one has a iPad pouch too, and a good sized external pocket: DSC02872 by unoh7, on Flickr Basically my daily man bag, as it will hold lots and is very tough. I think the little one is 275 and the big one is 375 USD. The little one is 671 grams without strap, big one 1206. Nothing ever comes out if they are closed, even when bag rolls off passenger seat and is now upside down on floorboard,as you race to shoot. Weather stays out, and protection is substantial. rramesh Posted August 9, 2015 Share #24 Posted August 9, 2015 Do also note that in some parts of the world, leather is a no-no on account of its ability to harbor fungus and mound with high humidity. Waterproof canvas like billingham or synthetics are usually the best.

albireo_double Posted August 9, 2015 Share #27 Posted August 9, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you want a leather bag, then consider also one of the "Dothebags", e.g. the 7 which is specified for an M system.
viramati Posted August 9, 2015 Share #28 Posted August 9, 2015 I have both the Bellingham Hadley small and the larger Hadley Pro. the Hadley small as great for 1 camera with lens + another lens and you can also slip an iPad air 2, wallet batteries etc into it. In fact I can fit the Leica Q and Sony A7 + 55mm lens into it. Hadley pro is bigger and you can add pockets on the end if needed. I have used them for ages and still have a Billingham 550 which I have used on and off for nearly 30 years Sorry I missed that you wanted leather but all the same the above bags are long lasting and very versatile
Exodies Posted August 9, 2015 Share #29 Posted August 9, 2015 Here's the kravitzing I mentioned on my Billingham. It is now over a year old but the corner first burst through after three months of daily use. The bag is a Hadley small with the artificial fabric, Fibernyte (not to be confused with luxurious skyvertex). The bag is perfect for my daily outings - M240, 2 lenses, wallet, passport, coin purse, key, color checker passport, spare battery, SD card, cleaning cloth, EVF, iPad mini, camera connection kit, paper hankies, nylon shopping bag. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! M240, Zuiko 50/1.4 (for close focusing). My ideal bag would take the M240 with 90mm Summicron, GPS handgrip and EVF attached but I think it would be excessively deep. As it is, I have to detach the EVF and power off as the shutter is activated in the bag with the grip fitted.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! MarkP Posted August 9, 2015 Share #30 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) I know what you're getting at, but Kravetzing by definition (mine) is cosmetic and does not affect function. To me this is product failure and I'd return it even if out of warranty unless i'd damaged it. Edited August 9, 2015 by MarkP
Neko Posted August 9, 2015 Share #31 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) Billingham and Fogg are excellent bags. Both made in England ....... Just to clarify. The Fogg bags are made in France by British ( lovely couple BTW) They won a design award in London and afterwards they moved to a small village in France. They run a really small workshop and exchanging emails and telephone conversations with them was a delight. If I have the chance I´d like very much to visit their place and meet them in person. The bag I purchased is in perfect condition after a year and half of heavy daily use. Not Kravetzing at all ! Besides I prefere to put my money in this kind of small business rather than in bigger companies who take advantage of low wages countries ( contemporary slavery IMHO) Edited August 9, 2015 by Neko
drk_1981 Posted August 9, 2015 Share #32 Posted August 9, 2015 I'm running around with an ONA Berlin II. Size is great and design too. Recently carried 2 M bodies, 2 lenses some rolls of film and the spare battery in it .. (wifey was lazy). However it is a rather heavy bag to carry around. The chaps from Gouache Bags also make some apparently nice ones but I didn't try these as I'm happy with my Berlin. viramati Posted August 9, 2015 Share #33 Posted August 9, 2015 Here is my Hadley Pro after nearly 10 years of heavy use. Worn and far from perfect but that is how I like it as it draws less attention. The inside padding is till fine and it is still waterproof which are the main things Welcome, dear visitor! Belle123 Posted August 9, 2015 Share #35 Posted August 9, 2015 I have Hadley bags, some are 20 years old, and still look almost as new as the day I bought them. I keep trying different leather bags, but I keep going back to using my Hadley small. Just works.
viramati Posted August 9, 2015 Share #36 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) Okay just for fun here is my 30 year or something old Billingham 550. Doesn't really get any use now but back when I used to carry 2 Nikon SLR bodies and various lenses, flash etci it got a lot of use and of course I was younger and my back was better!! Amazed to see that if I bought it now it would cost £600 so it might just find it's way onto ebay Welcome, dear visitor! To me this is product failure and I'd return it even if out of warranty unless i'd damaged it. Billingham's have lifetime warranty and superb CS. Obviously they don't guarantee the bags are invulnerable like Superman's costume, but I believe if there's any suspicion of a material defect, they would repair or replace it. They replaced FOC all the padded compartments in my bags whose padding had disintegrated, despite being a decade or more old.

piblondin Posted August 9, 2015 Share #39 Posted August 9, 2015 Why not buy whatever leather bag you like best and add some protective inserts for your camera gear? That's what I did with this bag: http://www.jackspade.com/mill-leather-field-messenger/NYRU0925.html
sclemmons Posted August 10, 2015 Share #40 Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) I use a Fogg bag and a Benser soft case and I am done. Both handy and light weight. If you want something special and can get to the US sometime, contact Frank Clegg. If you can visit his Fall River MA (about an hour from Boston) shop with your rig, he might have something that will work for you in his showroom, but he can work with you to do anything you like on a bespoke basis. A visit to his shop will be hard on your wallet. I visited in May and have bought 3 bags so far, two travel duffels and a zip top briefcase. I like his chocolate shrunken leather with the lining. http://frankcleggleatherworks.com/signature-satchel-small.html http://frankcleggleatherworks.com/small-travel-duffle-shrunken-grain-leather.html http://frankcleggleatherworks.com/executive-lock-satchel.html Lots of possibilities on here: https://instagram.com/frankclegg/ sc Edited August 10, 2015 by sclemmons
