jmahto Posted October 1, 2015 Share #1402 Posted October 1, 2015 Is that the same as Kleenex No, XP2 is engine oil. This camera needs 20 weight oil it seems. http://www.drivenracingoil.com/dro/xp2-sae-0w-20-synthetic-racing-oil-15885html/ Disclaimer: I feel great helping others with their clueless questions regarding a camera I have no clue about. colonel Posted October 2, 2015 Share #1405 Posted October 2, 2015 I saw the discontinuation of the Bessas for sometime. The simple fact is that RF lenses are excellent but not cheap, and someone contemplating the M lens system would be unlikely to spend on the lenses, Leica, Voigtlander or Zeiss, and not on the camera. It was simply a fact that a second hand M6 is roughly the same price but a nicer made and better to use object. I think the idea of a very cheap RF system has a hard time competing against a Canon AE1 or Nikon FM for example. It's really sad to see it go however and wouldn't rule out a digital Zeiss RF in the future depending on market conditions. I always though there is a market for a discount digital RF as the £5k of Leica is restrictive for most photographers. Whether this market is big enough to cover the R&D is another question. I think the M is a nice niche which ticks a lot of boxes and where Leica Is unlikely to be under much pressure from competitors on the hardware front. I have to say that a good M7 and M240 is a perfect combination for me, using the same Voigtlander, Zeiss and Leica lenses system. All my other camera systems in use are gravitating to fixed lens systems, due to the quality and choice of this type available today.

Agree that this is sad. I still have an old Bessa body. The problem for Cosina is not building one digital body or one shot R&D. Making digital bodies would require an investment in continuing to bring out new models, and many people see mirrorless as an adequate substitute for a rangefinder. If people see Sonys as less expoensive substitutes for Leica M's, that doesn't leave much of a market for Cosina. Yes, I know that there are diehards like many here who will never use anything but an optical rangefinder, but is that enough to create a niche for Cosina that is profitable? darylgo Posted October 3, 2015 Share #1410 Posted October 3, 2015 Leica has made two AF systems, the S and the T. Alike claws, contacts and missing aperture ring. If I had to take a wild guess Leica will duplicate this scenario with the new system. There was a thread on the T forum about Leica discontinuing it, I don't know what Leica's planning, however the new body (another guess) could easily accommodate T lenses if not adopt them outright as the new mount, flange distance and all. If so, the new body would have the ability to accommodate almost every worthwhile lens system, similar to the S with it's many adapters for medium format. Mornnb Posted October 3, 2015 Share #1411 Posted October 3, 2015 Replace the T system with a full frame mirrorless AF system with an EVF and a price closer to the Sony A7 than than the M system. That is what people really want and what Leica will need to get to 1% market share. Leave the M system as the higher end system.

IkarusJohn Posted October 4, 2015 Share #1417 Posted October 4, 2015 Wow, after all the BS and speculation, this silence is deafening. We're all busy getting our heads around the idea of an S or SL, and what lenses we'd like. Can't afford a Vario-Elmairt-R 28-90 or an APO-Summicron-R 180/2 (much as I would love Ve either or both). That cunning devil Jono Slack has made two very interesting posts recently (no surprise that he's ahead of us in the thinks Ng department): (1) he's reviewed the S(007) and said, lovely camera, but exile and not for me, and (2) he observed that we don't need to rush out and buy SL lenses immediately - the new camera is part of your overall system. Damn that man. As I see it, most M users have around 28 to 90 well covered. That's within the easy capabilities of the rangefinder, and those lenses are fabulous. So, what would the SL add? My Nikkor 180/2.8 was my favourite lens of all time! Imagine in body stabilisation, and a fast AF prime ... Where's my last bank statement! ... I will soldier on with my M system which brings great joy both in use and images. Repeat after me, I love my M cameras. I'll have to buy Alan a cup of coffees, I love my M cameras ... ad nauseam until 22 October.
