It assumes that they do not make an informed choice for a camera that suits them but stampede after the newest shiny thing....I would not go for a sub-optimal solution just because it happens to be available.

I fell I lost the right to make that claim when I bought an M8 in the early days.

Hmm- I feel that is different - I suppose you were like me, chomping at the bit to have a proper digital rangefinder - and not a Nikon squeezed into a Bessa ;)-

In retrospect, despite the initial rough ride, the M8 did fit the bill pretty well. Nearly a decade later it is still an excellent camera.

Me too.  Then I went to M9 and then M240.  Each was not perfect.  Some of us (many even many of us) are willing to go along with sub-optimal Leica solutions.  "Optimal" suggests ideal, best, etc., and I have not yet found a camera that is optimal for everything.  The question is which flaws (or things you don't like) are you willing to trade for which advantages (or things you like), and so far the advantages of Leica Ms have consistently outweighed their problems for me.  This may be because I am an old fart who happens to like a camera that feels like a camera to someone who started with a rangefinder in 1959.

There are a lot of ISO settings missing there. Not the Leica way.

Oh, really?  leica m60

Or, even this....  leica mp iso dial

Do you see 6400 detents?

Or even 400 detents for old ASA dials?

About as silly as having 4000 shutter speed detents....or lens aperture settings.

How many ISO settings are on the M-240?

And do you really want more clutter with aded dials on the body now?

Everybody wants to keep minimum. Adding an ISO dial would be a stupid move.

That's not the point....we were responding to YOUR post that Leica couldn't add an ISO dial because "it would have to have minimum 6400 detents".  Silly.

There's going to be a new M ... slimmer/lighter and possibly some other interesting updates (perhaps even substantial --- related to the viewfinder --- but we have to wait and see).  Release date unclear, but announcement possibly this year.

There's also going to be a new system camera with interchangeable AF lenses, but it's not going to be anything like a Q (except for the electronic viewfinder).  It's going to be between the M and S in size, almost certainly styled to resemble an SLR although it is a mirrorless camera.  It will have stunning high ISO performance, and the new lenses are going to have to be amazing to compete with the top-of-the-line Zeiss AF lenses on a Sony A7 lenses.  It will take old R lenses, and possibly also M lenses (in manual mode).  It'll be a lot more expensive than the Q.  Announcement date possibly within the next week, but also possibly not until October.

Is this speculation?

Silly is right. Nothing else to,do on a holiday but dream up stupid ideas like an ISO dial and wait two months and bitch about too much clutter.

Helps to change the subject when you have no direct response.  Make that two silly ideas, then.

Leaks only cause people to speculate which can take just about any direction – it’s completely unpredictable in its effect. Just the opposite of what you want to achieve with a well-planned marketing campaign.

I respectfully disagree. Leaks help to create hype and hype helps to sell a lot more. iPhone and Apple products are a perfect example in that respect.

Misinformation creates problems instead. If you tell people that you are bringing out a Mini M and you don't....well....we all know what happens ;):)

I'll give you a direct response. An ISO dial is an asinine suggestion. There are too many ISO settings in today's cameras to have a dial. It would take longer to fiddle through minute settings than it does to do it on a screen like we do now.

Now go,use the search box and be sure to,buy insurance.

Dr. Kaufmann posted a picture of a nice pair of new binoculars on his Facebook page. Is that a V-lux behind?

To give the last posts of speculation some direction.

I know Leica wanted it to be one of us.....for fun

Looks like a grip and a viewfinder-bump on top This way it becomes a size between a M and S.

And where is the R-adapter?

Apple was and is quite aggressive about preventing leaks. As a rule you don’t want leaks, not as a vendor.

Not to post #790, you didn't.  You argued for a minimum 6400 detents...as strange as arguing for 4000 shutter dial detents.  No camera, film or digital, has had an ASA or ISO dial with anything close to your notion....including Leica's own M60, whether you like the dial concept or not.
