NEW M.. This year.. This Fall...

I did pick up one, used it as a try-out and liked the files - but the sheer mass of the S plus lenses was the deal breaker for me.

Plus the difficulty of long lenses. I already did a  wildlife jaunt once using a Mamiya 645 E plus 500 and 2x extender. Never again...

And besides the Z sensor is like 26% larger than the S sensors.

6.4% larger to be exact. The sensor of the 645Z has more pixels (51.4 vs. 37.5 MP) but the difference in sensor size is negligible.

I handled an S but don't have the slightest desire to own one.  I need look no further than Canon for DSLR, given the limited use I have for these beasts nowadays.  No desire to own the Q, or X or T or a potential mirrorles/EVF M-mount body.  Only rationale I have for spending the kind of coin Leica charges is if it's a unique product with no direct competition.  In other words, optomechanical rangefinder.

I just don't get it why you are slagging off Leica gear

Unfortunately the first time I went to take a picture in the market it caused a huge commotion and me and the driver jumped in the jeep and got the hell out of there before we were lynched ................ scary shit.

But saying that carrying the S and the two lenses was a doddle, no different to carrying the M the MM and 3 lenses.

The market, yeah....maybe stick to your page 3 girl photos, eh?

I checked out my friend's S system and I liked it a lot. But the fact I could not use black and white film with it made it a non-starter. So I have just completed my 10 day evaluation of a Hasselblad CFV50c back and will likely get one, price is right and it plays incredibly well with my Hasselblad V system.

When I use my M system, I am in charge of the image quality, not the camera.

Huh?

I read no "slagging off", and nothing that could be called "rubbish". Opinion, and personal preference; but surely that is perfectly reasonable. The M has no competition, and its viewfinder is its unique selling point, with its fantastic manual lenses. That system didn't work for you; the fact that some else has a different opinion is no threat to you, or criticism of your choices.

I love my rangefinder. It is great that with the M240 there are alternative viewfinders, LV or EVF, if you need them. I have used EVF for macro stuff about 6 times, and LV once.

There are situations when that suits, however I normally use the RF. So easy, so accurate, so simple.

Why would a company spoil the existing format except to add improvements?

Let's wait and see.

Less than a month left to wait.

My info could well be wrong, but I understand you might be in for a disappointment.

A little bird tells me, however, that there is something in the pipeline though apparently not a new M.

So it must be a full frame interchangeable lens Q? :)

I would like to see an interchangeable lens Q but I think this would stop Q sales in most of cases and Leica would not killed a just born baby !

PS: just my thinking which could be wrong, but... :)

I will not be disappointed by the absence of a new M. I bought my M240 when they became generally available just over 2 years ago so I am not really ready for the temptation of further substantial expenditure.

Still a development of the Q with interchangeable lenses could chage my mind......   Not likely as Leica have not yet met the initial demand for the Q.

Whatever it is, I understand it may well make more than a nod towards those that have R mount lenses??

I think Leica understands that any upgrade on the M240 will be incremental and that it won't generate the expected sales as most M240 users are content with what they've got. Perhaps it's too early for a new M. But never too early for a new interchangeable lens Q. Think about new system, new lenses, etc.

Each new M generates a healthy turnover. Leicas main contributing profit to date

I expect them to keep roughly to timetable

That is good rumour to hear. It may well be camera with EVF which is based on Q’s EVF technology, it would work much better with non M lenses than subpar EVF employed by M240.

This new EVF on new camera (M or Q or any other letter in the alphabet) of course could be external or some sort of built in Optical RF/EVF hybrid.

If it wouldn't have been for the defective sensor cover of the M9, I doubt Leica would have sold as many M240s.

well there are many unquantifiable what-ifs in history

however I happen to disagree, the M240 is more then one generation ahead, and its not just the speed, ISO performance, shutter, reliability, screen, etc. Its the sum of the parts. just one example, LV means its a doddle to test lenses focusing and the RF, and use telephoto lenses.

Agree 100%.  The M9 was a modest evolution of the M8.  The M240 moved the needle far more and is a more mature camera in almost every way.
