The post that started this "New M.. This year..  This Fall" thread stated, "Can't add anything else.. promised to be calm."

In the 400+ posts that have followed this, I do not recall one that corroborated this first cryptic post.

If a new M is coming out soon, surely someone else would have heard credible rumours from trustworthy people?

I'm steeling myself for disappointment.

Very sensible - we sometimes get a bit carried away here, and then get disappointed, or surprised. We tend to be very enthusiastic.

We know there will be a new M this year, as the digital Ms tend to follow a three year release cycle. M8 2006, M9 2009, M(240) 2012. We get upgrades, special editions and variants, but the 3 year release cycle is reliable. Leica is also very good at maintaining confidentiality on its new releases. It has its testers (Jono, Sean Reid and others) on tight non-disclosure agreements, and they respect them. So, the guesswork is a fun game. Some get a bit over excited, but there's no harm in it.

This year, the rumour of a new system is very strong, which is even more interesting.

There is nothing unusual at all about the lack of leaks. That is normal for Leica.

I think most would agree that the opening post is garbage

Which is why folk use this thread for a general chat :D

The main issue with the M series is the horrible EVF bolted on top ...... if this was a low profile oblong like the integral EVF on the Q and overhung the back of the camera a bit to reduce it's impact it would be fine.

Let's do keep in mind that one of the more popular mirrorless cameras (any Sony 7 series camera including the new A7RII) has a "horrible EVF bolted on top".  However, those are not removable, as the M EVF's are removable so one has the option of using it or not.

On the forum are several statements that the measurements of the T-mount would be sufficient for a FF-lens. So the development of a new camera and the evolution of the RF to an opto-electronic one could be totally independent in time. So there could even be an camera with T-mount and EVF and/or RF-opto-electronic and a M-range with a opto-electronic and one with opto-mechanic.

This Opto-Electronic Rangefinder could also be interesting for MF-camera's

In my opinion to much for one manufacturer as small as Leica.

It could be that manufacturing of the opto-electronic RF is a joined venture with Panasonic, to be used even in the Medium Format development (Sinar, Panasonic), for one or both companies. All guessing and wishful thinking. Who knows!!

And everybody is waiting for new T-lenses, I for one as a T-user!! Will there be both FF and APS-C versions, when a new FF-camera is coming with a T-mount??

Perhaps someone should go back in time to see which Leica new patents were actually used to bring new products to market. like the Q, the T system, the M240, the S or whatever newish system one wants to look at. This might give some headfs up to whether this patent might be used in the nearterm or not.

Following on from the above, possibly one could have a camera with T-mount for existing T autofocus lenses – then the present T/M adapter would allow M lenses with manual focus – viewfinder like the Q (no rangefinder). Rear info/settings screen could be more conservative than with the T, and body shape more M-like rather than machined from an aluminium block: but lighter than the present M camera and with autofocus speed to match the Q.

Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS

but it's been significantly devalued by the information emanating from this thread!

You can pick up a second hand M for 2500 dollars now :( :(

The OP did report the Q '35/50 frame lines' feature before anyone else if memory serves. Perhaps the Leica people in Moscow are a little more leaky........

This is the one I'm waiting for.

Sorry, just re-read and realised the OP was only talking frame lines. I got all exited when I saw 35 and 50mm mentioned.
