Leica S Image thread

Shouldn't have done it................you just can't beat the S system for an all around camera system, even with its little quirks

That depends on what John wants to do, Neil. A tech camera can do much that a S cannot. I guess we better get back to the images before I divert the thread too much... Edited by EoinC

I'm now thinking the best option for me is Leica S

It always was Neil.

You've always liked the files and you've already laid out a lit of money on the system.

The only real problems are that at times it's too bulky and the lens motor failures really piss you off.

i think Mark's right, Neil. The S has served you well (apart from the woeful lens failures), and gives you the files you love. It's going to be diminishing returns on anything else, and the improvements are based on specialisations, which have trade-offs (size, weight, complexity in set-up etc, etc). Essentially great as additions, but less so as replacements.

I deliberated a long time between the S and a tech camera. I went with a Cambo/Phase One/Schneider system. It was great, but I didn't use it that much. It's not a "take on a whim" setup. You have to plan. On workshops, it was great. I did get some amazing shots with it, some even hand-held in low light. But it stayed home more and more.

I'd known from the beginning that I liked using the S, but was concerned about the lack of shifts and tilts. But I switched. I've had more fun with the S than with any system ever. I use it hand-held 90% of the time, even focus stacked images. Best of all, my photography has improved markedly (the Q being such fun has helped there, too.)  I haven't had any lens failures yet (and my Schneider 35XL spent months going back and forth to Europe to get fixed.) So maybe it's still the S honeymoon period, but it's been about a year, and it still feels great every time I pick it up.

My friends with tech cameras have mostly moved to the Phase One XF and sneer at the low MP count of the S. But that system is too large and heavy for the way *I* shoot. It works for them, and they're thrilled. So it just depends what you like. I'd like an S 24mm and maybe an 007. And to go out and shoot.

Best,

Matt

Oh, it's an image thread! Dawn, Moon, and Jupiter (faint, but visible just to the right of and above the moon). S(006), 70/2.5

Nuk (my wife) takes nice pictures too. :) :) :) :)

This place "Phang Nga" about an hours drive from Phuket Thailand has so many photo opportunities I can't wait to explore them when the sun comes out in the New Year.......in the mean time you'll just have to do with pictures like this :)
