Not just an artistic triumph, but a technical one as well! It's extremely difficult to convey the feeling of that range of light. My hat is off to you, sir.

Much appreciated! Actually, this type of image (with my pp skilles, anyway), requires starting from a linear profile - a la https://www.google.com/amp/s/tonykuyper.wordpress.com/2021/07/23/the-linear-profile-a-new-beginning-in-light-room-and-camera-raw/amp/ or the Cobalt Retro profile https://www.cobalt-image.com/basic-pack/ - developing the file step by step, keeping an eye to the highlights. In this case I started with Cobalt Retro (I use Lithtroom, Camera Raw and PS; C1 could be different).

Christmas and snow and Norway used to be rather synonymous. But this year adds to a slowly changing trend with winter arriving later and spring coming earlier. Here from the inner part of the Hardanger fjord on Western Norway - pretty much without snow under 1000 m or so. S3+S120.

Fantastic photo. Well done.

Unlike some of their other cameras or lenses in the past, it’s a shame in some ways that Leica don’t provide some tripod-mounted, really well executed DNGs (for example, of this type of scene) as a sample for people to look at to see what the S3 can achieve. It’s really difficult to find DNG samples anywhere of this camera for some reason.

Do you mind I ask what you expect to see? After comparing GFX50/100, Z7/6, S1/S5, SL2, SL2S, M, or S006/007. I find other than lower DR of 006 and early M, never a case that I run into sensor made the image or not. The modern sensor (and lenses for that matter) are all incredibly capable and difference is truly small.

This is a philosophic question than scientific one to me now. 😀 It is a matter of what you enjoy using more IMHO.

If print huge, resolution and sharp glasses not brand name are your only friends.

Hi, it’s a good question. It’s mainly due to me being curious to see how the rendering of the S3 differs versus my GFX100S ….ie, is the Leica truly different and unique in possibly being a more gentle and filmic look (something I’d value highly), or whether it’s a matter of simply a few adjustments in post or via filtration for the GFX to achieve a very similar output to the S3?

i fully understand. I think it is not a simple answer and as human it is hard to not having confirming bias and being totally objective. I believe I can match them if I am allowed using same lens with some time to process.  However, I no longer trying to figure this out. As at end of day, it is not a single feature keep me using certain gear but a total package. A combination Of trade off determined my choice. For S, it is big bright OVF with super easy control so I can concentrate to shooting, CCD sensor, superb glass and a platform for older gear.  If your priority differ, you will reach different conclusion. I guess the market direction show that most don’t take this set of trade off S present plus cost and weight. So, I suggested Miorrless S :)

I love what I see whenever I use S camera with S glasses. As you can see I also love adapt old film glasses on S for smooth look as those are designed to cover bigger sensor. They can’t compete S or other modern glass at optical level for sharpness and CA correction. But being lenses designed to cover big sensor, they give a smooth look to extreme corner and especially easier to do panaroma due to lack of cat eye and vignette.

it is a good discuss. I know this is an image thread and hope others won’t mind. will share more images later.

S2 and 35mm Summarit S

This one is from many years ago. Happy Christmas! This is classic S color (at ISO640.) And this is classic S glass rendering at WO. Watch that smooth transition and that round corner bokeh ball. The even more impressive fact is the whole S line of glasses offer this kind of house rendering. Every time, I pick a S shooting, it brought so much enjoyment just as 8 years ago today. Time seems never march here. The GAS never can attack me as none bring better joy than this.

I just processed this yesterday.
