So sad to hear the news of Jip’s passing. Never met or spoke to Jip, but knew of him through this forum and his Leica S content online.

Rest in peace, Jip, and sincere condolences to any of his friends or family reading this.

There is a thread in Barnack's Bar for people to record their thoughts and commiserations:

Red leather. Black silk. A cigarette poised between crimson lips. The Diablo hums low, a beast waiting to be unleashed. Laura draped in shadows, lit by neon dreams—half Sin City, half fever dream. The city sleeps, but she doesn’t.

Shot on the Leica S3 with the Summarit-S 70mm CS. Illuminated by Harlowe Creators LED—one Pro, one Pro Max, and one Avant—sculpting both metal and muse.

Why is it that I find images made with the S cameras, especially the S 2 often so restful on the eye?  Is it that, having spent so much money on camera and lens, only people who really know what they are doing use them and post here, or does the camera have something fundamental to do with it. Such a high proportion of images on this thread have such beautiful colours.  (Composition is usually superb too.)

Well, nobody here wants to hang out with the CMOS riffraff, so that's probably why 😊

I think there are a number of reasons. The look of the Leica CCD is fairly unique, and the Leica lenses are fabulous without being what I would call "clinical." The combination does seem to give a cinematic feel to the images. And maybe those who appreciate those qualities are more discriminating about how they go about taking photos and which ones they post to the website.
