i  was very tempted and almost pre-ordered, but after i have seen the new Sony A7r II i have some doubts

first doubt is the 28mm lens, even if 24mp are enough the "digital zoom" will make a 35mm around 15mp

if was 35mm 1.7....well was super and without any doubts

A7rII tempt me for the new sensor that promise incredible high iso performance (on paper ....)we will see :-)

I have dabbled with Sony with Nex7 and A7r.   Yes, the specifications are impressive, but the ergnonomics were not and on both, I found using Leica lenses, especially anything wider than 50, to be difficult.  For really wide I had to focus wide open and stop down, like the old days of preset lenses (before there were automatic diaphragms; yes, I am that old).  I didn't like the menu control system and the control wheels that seemed to change function unexpectedly.  And the A7r was far too noisy for a mirrorless camera.  So you are right about "on paper" being the issue. My advice is try first before you buy.   I do like the Sony RX100iii that I have; it is a great pocket camera.

That's a big ten-four.  The Q, on paper, is the camera I've been waiting for.  I've tried and passed on the X113 and Sony RX1.  Not wide enough, not fast enough operationally, no built-in EVF.  The Ricoh GR is my everyday camera, but my hands want M-camera feel and my eyes want M-camera image quality, but without M-camera weight.  The Q is a third of the price of a M240 with a 28mm Summilux, and almost half the weight.  This could be IT.

I prefer 35mm as a 'walkaround' lens. I have a Canon EOS-M with their fabulous 22mm f2 prime (35mm equivalent).

Leica have copied the touch focus/touch focus-shoot options which are surprisingly useful. I paid less than £200 for body and lens. Compared to £3K for the Leica. No, it doesn't have an EVF but I hate any I've tried so far and prefer to use the LCD.

So, whilst the Q is a nice looking camera, it doesn't tempt me at all.

I've ordered mine (from Park Cameras) - looking like stock in the UK is not arriving until towards the end of next week, or does anybody know different?

It boils down to two simple questions:

Is 28mm fixed focus OK with you?

Are you OK with parting with 4K+ ?

There is no other significant issue that you need to waste time on. The Leica Store in Singapore had a few and I got mine a few hours ago. A wonderful, solid and intuitive camera. It's been a long and tiring week but I will try and post some images in the morning.

I for one am one of those who have transferred to the Sony A7 series as my main and more versatile Photographic tool but all the same I have ordered the Q and am selling the M as this camera meets certain criteria for street shooting that I can't get in the Sony A7 series namely Focus scale on the lens and analogue controls for shutter and aperture. If I hadn't still got the M to trade in I probabaly would have passed on the Q due to the price but as it is the M has hardly been out of the safe for the last 6 monts or so. Also luckily 28mm is my preferred focal length for street work as it gives me wider FOV than the 35 a bit more DOF and allows me to crop to 35mm if needs be

Just bought the Q ..... sold my M9 (5 years, 30,000 shots comes to around $5,000 of film camera cost $7000 new got about $2000 on the trade so I am happy that way) and a 18mm SEM that I never used .... still had to top up a bit, but more than reasonable. Leica SOHO NYC. Anyway, my thought was simply this -- I didn't need a film M and a digital M, what I needed was a digital companion to my film M that would give all the things digital can namely auto and wifi and I got a great IQ on top of that. Seems like the perfect companion and when it is with me, I will the 50mm on the M-A and a take a 90mm when I am traveling. Set for a while, will post when I can.....

Well Im certainly tempted. The good news is that my husband has ordered one  :D  as I don't let him use my xvario much! so whilst he is waiting for it, I'm being very generous and letting him practice with the xvario!

I have an M8.  It is finally time for me to move up to a full frame Leica so I was seriously considering the Q.  My conclusion is that while the Q looks like a fantastic camera, for approximately the same amount of money I can get an ME and use my 4 Leica lenses.

Apologies, i did my math wrong. 30,000 actuations is 833 rolls of 36exp film. Generally, the film plus processing in NYC costs me around $30/roll. 30 times 833 = $25,000 against $7,000 paid for the M9 and about the $2,000 I received on trade-in. I got my money's worth, more so given the enjoyment I had with the camera. Point is for those concerned about depreciation of digital and all that, yes it happens BUT if you use the darn thing instead of looking at it the cost more than pays for itself. Will the Q? Who knows, who cares. It is a companion to my M-A and that will never become obsolete -- or perhaps more correctly, more obsolete than it already is  :-)
