Advertisement Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Hi tobey bilek, Take a look here Who is getting the Lux 28?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted April 30, 2015 Share #22 Posted April 30, 2015 The key lies in the "almost" as usual. Besides much bulkier lenses (in fact i know only one, the Nikkor 28/1.4), this superb Summilux has simply no competitor IINW. I won't order it because i'm not fond of big lenses, especially wides, on rangefinders but as much as i like my Leica 28/2 and 28/2.8 asph, i would be quite happy to shoot indoor at f/1.4 with a 28 to be honest. mmradman Posted April 30, 2015 Share #23 Posted April 30, 2015 Different beasts at different prices. I don't think this 0.5 difference is worth the price of a small car. Yes i did compare the CV 28/1.9 to the Summicron 28/2. I was with a friend and we took a picture of the same subject on a tripod. The two pictures were almost identical, with very slight differences in the OOF areas. I do not see a reason to sell the CV and buy the Summicron. And I'm an happy owner of Summilux and Summicron lenses as well. But given that most of the pictures taken by amateurs like me are generally seen on computers, I'm not very keen to buy a lens that delivers almost the same of the one i have and costs ten time much. All valid argument however Voightlander LTM 28mm f1.9 is not in production any more and according to web chatter (I don't have first hand experience with Voightlanders) better lens optically than current VM 28mm f2 so using it as reference point against forthcoming f1.4 may work for you but where does it leave rest of us with interest in the future fast lens. Once new 1.4 becomes widely available it would be interesting to see how it compares against current Summicron 28mm. I have no regrets part exchanging my 28 Summicron for another modern Summilux lens. My best Summicron images were taken at f8, faster f stops didn't impress and I like option to shoot fast. hiepphotog Posted April 30, 2015 Author Share #24 Posted April 30, 2015 I understand 28 is not as popular here as the 35, but as a 50 shooter, this would fit perfect into my 3-lens kit: 15/28/50. And I doubt this would be bigger or heavier than my ZM 15, which I take with me everywhere I go. I just hope this one has the least amount of field curvature in all the modern lux asph lens. I plan to have only these three lenses, and they should be as versatile as they could. As for right now, I'm shooting with the Elmar 24 instead. MarkP Posted May 2, 2015 Share #26 Posted May 2, 2015 I won't be buying a1.4/28 Summilux, at least for the moment I'm not at all tempted. I have the 2.0/28 Summicron ASPH and 2.8/28 Elmar. Between them these two lenses gives me the variables I want with respect to different rendering, speed, and lens size/weight. Although I love my very fast lenses, I often find myself taking the smaller and lighter ones.

CheshireCat Posted May 2, 2015 Share #28 Posted May 2, 2015 I'm looking forward to all the dreamy creamy bokeh shots that are being planned. Lets have a lot of awesome tests as well, maybe a brick wall or two, an empty green field with the backdrop of a distant mountain range would be good. Pity all the losers who buy this to use as a fast 28mm lens, they won't get a look in. After so many years, now I understand f/1.4 is for losers. I wish you had posted this pearl of wisdom before I bought my Summilux 35 ! I don't want to be a loser, Steve. Please tell me, what's the maximum aperture for winners ? IkarusJohn Posted May 2, 2015 Share #31 Posted May 2, 2015 spare ? The M Edition 60 comes with a 35 Summliux FLE (with wider focus and aperture rings), so I'm selling my black one. Don't need 2.

IkarusJohn, how does that Audi designed 35 compare to the regular one? I feel like Leica should have designed all of their lenses like that
sarav Posted May 3, 2015 Share #33 Posted May 3, 2015 It seems quite large, 24lux is not so different. Does anyone know which filter size?
sarav Posted May 3, 2015 Share #34 Posted May 3, 2015 I'm tempted ten times from the summicron but I've resisted 'til today. Despite aperture position, to me summilux lenses have a better light rendering the "darker" brothers. A shot with a 35 LUX FLE at f4 or f5,6 is different in light rendering from the same shot taken with a Summarit 32. I own both and LUX shots have a real "sense of lightness". 24LUX is unbeatable (best light and OOF-rendering than 35LUX). I hope this 28LUX is in the 24 League!! IkarusJohn Posted May 3, 2015 Share #36 Posted May 3, 2015 IkarusJohn, how does that Audi designed 35 compare to the regular one? I feel like Leica should have designed all of their lenses like that Can't tell you anything about the internals. It's heavier than the black version. The focus and aperture rings are also wider and have a very solid and precise feel. Best made Leica lens I've come across so far ...
hiepphotog Posted May 3, 2015 Author Share #37 Posted May 3, 2015 It seems quite large, 24lux is not so different. Does anyone know which filter size? By estimation, it's closer to the Lux 35 size than the Lux 24, probably around the 65mm range with hood on. Jono's 28 lens has a regular 49mm filter size. Huge plus on my book over the specialized Leica Series filter.
sarav Posted May 3, 2015 Share #38 Posted May 3, 2015 By estimation, it's closer to the Lux 35 size.......Jono's 28 lens has a regular 49mm filter size. 49mm is a good digit to me, I already own a set of coloured filters of that size for the 75 APO. In size, if it's close to the 35LUX, it would be perfect. Perfect! Little enough but with the right weight to well balance the camera.
