hiepphotog Posted April 28, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 28, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Personally, I am pretty excited about this lens. According to Reid's review, the lens is phenomenal at infinity and close-focus at WO. Much sharper than what I see from the Lux 21 and 24, for obvious reason . Jono's shots back that up as well. It might come out this year actually since the black version is already available at Wetzlar. Anyone is going to pre-order? https://www.flickr.com/groups/2676298@N23/ Cheers, Hiep
Advertisement Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Hi hiepphotog, Take a look here Who is getting the Lux 28?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted April 28, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 28, 2015 Not me - i love the rendering of the Summilux 24 and am happy with my Elmarit 28 III for the rare times I use this focal length.

The combination of 28 & 50 is my preferred walkabout, with the 21 or 90 added as needed. Like you, I'm impressed with what I've seen so far. But I am in no hurry, it has to be said. Steve Ash Posted April 28, 2015 Share #5 Posted April 28, 2015 somewhere between the price of the summilux 24 and the summilux 35 I suppose
jmr237 Posted April 28, 2015 Share #6 Posted April 28, 2015 "It might come out this year actually since the black version is already available at Wetzlar." When you say "available" at Wetzlar, do you mean that they are already selling it?
IkarusJohn Posted April 29, 2015 Share #7 Posted April 29, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I last asked Wetzlar about this lens (I wanted a silver chrome version), I was told that they were still working on getting the black version into production - shades of the APO Summicron 50. The last thing Leica will want is to release the production lens prematurely and have to do a recall. I'm assuming sometime this year, with the inevitable time lag between the lens being released and it actually being available.

The Audi designed 35 M60 SE is gotta be the best I have seen. I don't think they would ever release another set like that with the 28.
IkarusJohn Posted April 29, 2015 Share #9 Posted April 29, 2015 Was there any hint for the silver chrome? I would love one. The Audi designed 35 M60 SE is gotta be the best I have seen. I don't think they would ever release another set like that with the 28. The 100 Years of Leica special edition featured a Leica M-A film camera and silver chrome Summilux 28. There's one for sale on eBay right now for USD 65,000. The great thing is that with the 28 Summilux, they throw in a Monochrom, M-A, 35 Summilux and 50 Summilux (all silver chrome) and a hard case. Bargain! Allowing USD 600.00 for the case, the silver chrome 28 Summilux costs a mere USD 43,000! To be fair, the original price for the set was €22,000, which would mean that the 28 Summilux actually only cost USD 2,000 on top of the list price for everything else. Sometimes the ridiculous special edition prices aren't actually that crazy ... Welcome, dear visitor! CheshireCat Posted April 29, 2015 Share #10 Posted April 29, 2015 I like how the lens renders, but from the few shots I have seen (thanks Jono) it seems a nice lens for the size, but I had higher expectations. If this lens costs as much as the 35 FLE, I'll wait for Zeiss. By the way, who designed this lens ?

epand56 Posted April 29, 2015 Share #12 Posted April 29, 2015 I sometimes look at the pictures taken with my CV 28/1.9 and wonder which lens could do better than that. I don't think the many thousands of euros of the Lux 28 are worth the difference.

I don't think the many thousands of euros of the Lux 28 are worth the difference. F/1.4 vs f/1.9. Different beasts. Did you compare your CV 28/1.9 to the Summicron 28/2? Just curious. Mornnb Posted April 29, 2015 Share #14 Posted April 29, 2015 Don't need f1.4 at 28mm Perfectly happy with the 28mm Elmarit ASPH and its complete lack of viewfinder blockage.

But the lens design lacks the refined element of the M60 35: The aperture ring and the focus ring are big enough and balanced to each other. This seems to me more well-put together and very sleek. 250swb Posted April 30, 2015 Share #19 Posted April 30, 2015 I'm looking forward to all the dreamy creamy bokeh shots that are being planned. Lets have a lot of awesome tests as well, maybe a brick wall or two, an empty green field with the backdrop of a distant mountain range would be good. Pity all the losers who buy this to use as a fast 28mm lens, they won't get a look in. Steve
epand56 Posted April 30, 2015 Share #20 Posted April 30, 2015 F/1.4 vs f/1.9. Different beasts. Did you compare your CV 28/1.9 to the Summicron 28/2? Just curious. Different beasts at different prices. I don't think this 0.5 difference is worth the price of a small car. Yes i did compare the CV 28/1.9 to the Summicron 28/2. I was with a friend and we took a picture of the same subject on a tripod. The two pictures were almost identical, with very slight differences in the OOF areas. I do not see a reason to sell the CV and buy the Summicron. And I'm an happy owner of Summilux and Summicron lenses as well. But given that most of the pictures taken by amateurs like me are generally seen on computers, I'm not very keen to buy a lens that delivers almost the same of the one i have and costs ten time much.
