Promises are worth the electrons they're written with. "not be made by Leica" doesn't mean much, the T lenses aren't made by Leica. These were not electrons - they were physical words in a session with a couple of hundred forum members, it is documented in the forum (unless the thread got lost in the transition) Who promised at the S2 introduction and how? Real interest. Not that an R resurrection would make sense nowadays. There are plenty of alternatives, tooling of the lenses is no longer there, far to costly to enter a declining market, 135 class SLRs are on the way to become dinosaurs. Can you point to anything I've written in the last 5 years that would indicate I'm advocating an R resurrection? None of the alternatives for using R lenses, among the best ever made, include operating the automatic aperture, a feature introduced more than half a century ago. Not a complex feature, and one that is very useful for focussing quickly and accurately. A smart adapter for an existing camera (i.e., T, E-mount, Fujifilm) is not rocket science. Leica has shown it can make smart adapters. This IMHO would constitute fulfilling its promise to R lens users. Until this happens Leica's promises are empty. Maybe on the initial purchase of camera bodies (although I doubt it, if used as a second camera), but it sells lenses, and after they buy a lens they move on to an M camera. Leitax made a 'manual' auto aperture with their special Leica R to Nikon F adapter. You have to press a tab on the adapter to focus at full aperture, no matter what aperture your lens is on. It is sort of the inverse of the DOF preview lever found on most SLR's. Not automatic, but looks like it will be a big help in focussing R lenses on Nikon bodies. Something small with AF and on a full frame Sony/Leica sensor?The AF on the Sony is pretty slow, you're better off with a rangefinder and zone focusing. If you really need AF get a DSLR, generally the lenses are of much better quality than Sony's as well. Nobody does zooms as well as Canon. I use a 5D Mark III as my second camera. In terms of primes for EF mount, Sigma's Art series are the best. Sigma are underrated and often ignored, but in terms of primes they're beating everyone in the Canon/Nikon world. Nikon's had an edge in wide angles. But not any more. Not since the 11-24mm. Canon's been smiting over the D800 and 14-24mm, and has responded with the 5Ds and 11-24mm. Not really as backup, but pretty much as my main cameras. Sold my M8 and kept my M9, and supplemented them with a A7r and a A7II - which, at least in my book, are the superior tech. I still like shooting my M9 and do so often (and get published), but the Sonys in combo with Leica glass are my prefered option. Also, I can't say that the autofocus on their native lenses is slow - it's not great with moving objects, but even with old Minolta glass they are quite fast to lock.
