M240 - Bug or Defect?

Hi, everyone, I've been a happy M9 user until I decided to finally give an M240 a chance. It's been a nightmare.

I have Auto ISO that is working only intermittently. Either in Aperture Priority or Manual mode, ISO is supposed to change automatically to my set max, but sometimes the ISO gets stuck at the number I set manually in the past, and will not adjust. So the pictures come out grossly underexposed. This all happened after I upgraded to 2.0.1.7.

One strange thing I am noticing is when the Auto ISO is not working, I see a little flash symbol in my VF. I don't think I am supposed to see this symbol unless I have a flash on. So I am beginning to wonder if there is an issue with the internals.

Does anyone have had this issue? Is there a way to go back to 2.0.1.5 or previous firmware just to see if it's software related?

Thank you in advance for any helpful insight. I do miss my M9. :-(

Sorry I sound completely ignorant, but I think this is a real issue. Regardless of where I set the AUTO ISO, ISO will not change. Does it make sense when my MAX ISO is set to 3200, but the camera will take the shot at 1/30s with ISO 200? Please tell me how this could be a user error?

And my flash symbol is constantly on in the VF. I am wondering if anyone had a similar experience.

If your camera takes the shot at ISO 200 and the max ISO is set to 3200, it sounds like it is working to me....

But, my minimum shutter speed is set at 1/(2x focal) which should be either 1/90 or 1/120. Why would the camera insist on ISO 200 with 1/15 or 1/30 instead of bumping up the ISO to keep the minimum shutter speed? And the pictures come out underexposed.

BTW, am I supposed to have the red flash symbol lit up in the VF at all times? I think that is the culprint at the moment. Somehow the camera thinks that the camera has a flash on.

What lens are you using? Is it coded?

To the Original Poster -

Have you tried turning Off your camera & removing the battery (10-15minutes)?

Have you tried a Reset? Is your camera up to date with the latest Updates?

Call Leica - get them involved....:)

I will try to leave the battery out for 15 min. Latest firmware. Tried reset many times. It will work fine until flash symbol comes on.

Can anybody confirm if I am supposed to have this flash symbol on all the time?

My camera is set to A priority, auto iso and 1/f.....

Could it be that there is insufficient light even at iso 3200 to facilitate 1/(2xf)....? hence the camera using a lower shutter speed.

Also, look at SET/ISO Auto ISO in M mode... where you have a choice of either 'previous iso' or ON

No the problem is the camera's ISO is stuck at low ISO and even in low light, it does not bump the ISO. I think the culprit is in the flash symbol. I do not understand why the flash symbol is on? When the symbol is off, everything works as it should.

On my way to Leica store today. An hour drive but need to get this sorted out.

Looks like my camera is Having some issues. Auto ISO is definitely not working. I think there is a short somewhere that is causing the camera to think that there is a flash on it.

Leica senior tech will be calling Germany on Monday. I adon'am keeping my fingers crossed that it is just a firware glitch.

Verify that "Auto ISO in M mode" stands as "On" and not as "Previous ISO"

Br / Alex

This confused me as well.... coming from a Canon body. A very familiar feature called autoiso did not work as expected. Is "Previous ISO" the default option?

Probably a static electrical charge buildup then. Remember electronic cameras are essentially ungrounded computers, so they can be susceptible to this sort of thing in dry weather.
