When I bought my 2nd M in silver, I had to buy it one silver lens and it was a 50 cron in silver. I also have the 50 APO, current Noctilux and a lowly lux. Â s-a I guess my only bout with this affliction was when I bought an X-Vario. It just was not my thing. I kept it a while but ended up trading it in on another M240. This cured the affliction. NB23 Posted February 3, 2015 Share #32  Posted February 3, 2015 Firstly, camera enthusiasts cling to gear like it is Gollum's gold ring in "Lord of the Rings", photographers look at them strictly as tools that help them attain a vision, if something is not being used, it could either be a backup or will be sold.  Secondly, that is the way I work and I sold off most of my Leica gear once a project was done. I chose to keep one M3 on which I use a single Leica lens, the 50mm 1.4 Asph and 99% of the time shoot Tmax 400...I would be an idiot to sell it or replace it with the Apo Summicron and lose a stop of much needed speed.  I just don't get this need to cling to gear....if you are not using it, then sell it and use that money for travel, a good charity, etc.  At some point this year, I am going to Cuba with my M3/50 asph and 50 rolls of Fuji Provia 400X and that's it, those are the only tools I need for this project and the work will be spectacular, guaranteed.   Been there many times. Still need to scan my kodachromes. One day, when i'm done printing all my stuff.  Go wide. Why not bring your xpan along? Welcome, dear visitor! Got a back up IV for the M-E on a whim  Am hoping to do an Ebay selling binge this summer. 4 film bodies, 135's I'll never use, an extra 40 - on & on collected over 40 yrs.  As someone on the forum once advised, "set them free"  Some of you will cringe, but the only lens I have sold recently was a new 50 lux asph. To the collector, one can never have enough of anything, and I would always justify collecting by saying "I don't cheat on my wife with other women, I don't do drugs, I don't gamble and I don't do fast cars or motorcycles". As a dealer, I could always justify an acquisition as it will always be salable at some point. To illustrate how far this can take you, I still have five 50/1.5 Xenon SM lenses in the collection. Â I still regret selling my 50/1.0 Nocti, Tri-Elmar and 75 Lux. Lately, I have decided I must have a Silver Monochrom, so I have been toying with selling my mint First Version Chrome 35/1.4 Summilux M with OLLUX to finance it. Â Seriously, even two lenses to choose from when going out on the street is enough to give me option paralysis. I own a Leica Summarit 35mm f/2.5 and that's it and it's unlikely to change unless I swap it out for the f/2 cron. Â The DSLR and 24-70mm f2.8 zoom is my work camera and I barely ever use it for personal photography besides studio portraits. But even then, I only use that one lens. Â I've dubbed it the Lean Gear Philosophy and it works wonders for both my sanity and my bank account. Recoup the cost of those lenses you never use in my opinion!
