John Black Posted October 22, 2016 Share #21 Posted October 22, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) As an original M240 owner I must say that I think the upgrade would be a complete waste of time and money, especially this late in the product cycle. If my intention was to upgrade to the next M pretty much regardless of what it is, then yes, I agree with your point of view. However, if I wasn't planning to buy the "Next M", then swapping from a the M-240 to MP 240 has some merit if the M-P's additional features resonate with one's needs / preferences. Another speculative consideration is the "next" M's firmware. It usually takes Leica a year or so to get the bugs worked out and reach the firmware 2.0 level. If the November announcement rumors prove true (for the "next" M - November 2016 Announcement Spring 2017 shipments start 3-6 months for shipments in mass 6-9 months later, firmware 2.0 lands It could take as long as early-to-mid 2018 for the next M reach a mature, stable state. I've been shooting digital M's since the M8's release, and the firmware ride can be very bumpy and slow. So, I'm not in a rush to trade my well-working M-P 240 & 246 for headaches. MarkP Posted October 22, 2016 Share #22 Posted October 22, 2016 That is as may be, but in my case it transformed a beat-up black camera into an as-new bright chrome one. I consider it as money well spent. Your cameras tend to get VERY beaten up as I seem to recall. Didn't you have a bad fall a while ago and injure both yourself and your new M240? orc999 Posted October 23, 2016 Share #25 Posted October 23, 2016 ok I would not upgrade, I would buy a "new used" one. I would agree it does not make much sense for most people to "upgrade". I don't need continous shooting. I also don't need a saphire screen or that lever to check different lenses VOF. I wonder if the camera operation is more responsive in general for faster operation du to the memory. Also some say the OVF is brighter, is that true? So I don't own and M currently and think about buying one, price difference is about 15% on my offers.

MarkP Posted October 23, 2016 Share #28 Posted October 23, 2016 The upgrade does not apply to the RAM and does not add a frameline lever. Further reinforces to me why a cosmetic upgrade just isn't worth it. The upgrade could buy another lens or pay for a nice short holiday somewhere to take nice photos. I only would need the top and the cover to be replaced, so only cosmetically changes :-) John
