Sometimes I experience a lag between shots M-P(240)

Hi,

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but intermittently, I have issues taking successive shots in single-shot mode. I take a pic, wait 1/2 a sec or more and try to take another pic and nothing happens. I have to release the button and press again.

It doesn't happen in continuous mode or at least I haven't experienced it in the few times I used it.

I am wondering if it's a memory card(SanDisk Extreme PRO 64GB UHS-1/U3 SDXC) issue or a camera issue or if it's an issue at all. Is the camera buffer used in single-shot?

You did not say if you are using the LV or not. If so, lag is normal in this case when using LV. Many of us use the Sandisk 64/95mb/s. It is the mb/s that is important so I guess even you omiitted that piece of data that is the card you are using.

Yes I am using the 95mb/s card.

No LV. I ran some tests now, and it seems it only happens in lower light conditions.

In low light conditions, If I take a pic and try to go for another one too fast for the camera nothing happens until I release and press again.

How low is low light, i.e. what exposure times are we discussing? IIRC, from one second onwards, the camera spends a fair amount of time to reduce the noise in the shot.

Aperture priority, shutter speed where the issue happens is 1/15 and below. The slower the worse of course.

Maybe it's noise reduction but just not showing it on the screen since it's less than 1 sec?

One thing I noticed now is that in continuous mode at this speed there's also a lag between the consecutive shots taken. Meaning it's waiting on something(probably noise reduction) before it can take the second shot. Probably I am just impatient and there's no issue.

Are you shooting DNG and Jpg or just DNG? It may be creating the Jpg file that takes the extra time? Just a thought.

Nope, just DNG. I also tried with compression off.

Basically once I shutter speed is 1/15 and below I notice a lag. If I set it on continuous with a shutter speed of 1/15 <=, it takes ~1 pic a sec and sometimes less at slower shutter speeds.

I also removed the SD card and still noticed the same behavior.

How many pics can you take with similar settings? Does it take the same # of pics at let's say 1/30 ?

What ISO in "low light" are you using? What lens and f stop?

I will try to duplicate it on my M-P if I have all the particulars.

By 1/15 and below-do you mean ⅛, ¼ etc. by the word "below"?

I have it set to ISO 800. By lower I mean't slower yes, 1/8, 1/4.

Obviously at lower shutter speeds you'll take less pictures, but going by what I am hearing I feel there's additional processing going after the picture is taken.

P.S this is my first Leica and I might be dragging you to a wrong path. I just don't have another Leica to compare it with and this is just a normal behavior.

After I hear the shutter released, I can press 3 times quickly and no picture is taken. This doesn't happen at 1/30 for example, no matter how quickly I try to take another picture, it always succeed.

I just tested ISO 800, 1/15, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 and could not duplicate an inability to take another shot unless I hadn't waited for the shutter itself. This was most noticeable at 1/2.

Thanks for your testing! Where you able to take a picture immediately after the shutter was released?

I am able to take a photo right after the shutter releases, though I may have seen a slight delay at 1/2" a few times on the third or fourth shot.

I can't see why I would ever shoot this way at slow shutter speeds without stabilization so I don't think this is something I would have ever encountered.
