I like that people mention things like "oh their dad had a camera just like that, how are you still shooting film?" "Is that a film camera?"

Sometimes I correct them and other times I don't.

I like the fact I've shot many paid things I would have shot with the Nikon I sold for this camera like events and portfolio building etc and the Leica has not disappointed me yet. :D:D

It holds up very well. I thought I would have been hindered but so far so good and that's with one lens.

Given that I was complaining about the complainers on here... perhaps it falls to me to re-start this...:D

Things I like...?

1). Focus is fast and really easy - by far the best I have used

2). Feels fabulous in the hand, solid, rugged and reliable.

3). Very quiet

4). Results are stunning (Raw (DNG) + B&W Jpeg)

5). Files easy to work with in Lightroom... flexible and low noise at higher ISO

6). Fast to switch on - I have about a two second wait from 'off'

7). EVF (rarely used, but very useful when needed).

8). EVF additional benefit when using focal lengths that would otherwise need a separate finder to compose.

9). No worries or nagging doubts about sensor

10). Exceptional (and very useable) B&W results direct from the camera - even better from DNG in PP with LR+Silver Efex Pro

And finally... she is just so damn beautiful!!!:D

I am leaving for Malaysia on Saturday on a two week holiday with my wife... and am really looking forward to all the travelling around KL, Penang and Pangkor Laut with my stunning little Leica

Next lens on my list will be a 21mm Elmarit. I want a true wide angle and it would work well alongside the 35 as a standard travel/city kit... I don't need ultra fast lenses with the 240 given the light I am likely to be shooting in most of the time...

.. and of course, one day very soon, a 50mm Summicron... because despite what I said above, I need one fast lens and I love the way this looks wide open...

Then all I need do is look forward to a Monochrom based on the 240 and I'm done...

Had the family over tonight for holiday dinner. Took some jpegs with my Pentax dslr, with and without flash, and some jpegs with my M240 with and without flash. No comparison. M240 blows it away. Ease of use of the M240 w/ flash. Just turn the aperture dial for exposure over/under with the SF 24D flash set on A ( not TTL). Easy.

Have my toddler grandkid here for the holidays. Shot a bunch with 35 Cron on my Nex 6, a bunch with the M240 and 50 Lux. Half the Nex shots were misfocused despite the greater effective DOF and peaking. 90% of the M240 shots, wide open with the 50 Lux, are tack sharp. EVF technology has a long long way to go to reach the speed and precision of the so-called "antiquated" Leica rfdr. Thinking of biting the bullet for a second M240 and scrap a bunch of other photo crap I'm not using for one reason or another.

Well I did it. M240 number two on order. Pre-owned certified in the mid-$4K's, a black one this time around. Hope it's trouble-free and I don't regret it. I figure it'll be at least next fall before a new model comes out, and even if it has significant feature improvements I deem worthwhile for me, it will be at least another 18 months to 2 years after that before demos/used will be in ample supply at good prices. Hopefully they will use the same batteries and have the same 2m frame lines so I would feel comfortable keeping one M240.

Meantime I intend to get a lot of shooting enjoyment out of them. Now I just need to figure out what stuff I'm going to part with to defray some of the cost

Most that has been said in favour of the M240 I agree with. The things that for me really make this camera shine are:

1. rangefinder and frame-lines

2. shutter

3. R-lens compatibility

4. the EVF for those times where an EVF is useful (you all know what I mean)

5. the colours from older lenses are particularly lovely.

Livingston - Yes, I didn't mention how easy the files are to work with and how much they can be pushed in PP. I was just working with one of Lou's (Algrove) files and was thinking about how much latitude the M files have in PP.

Thanks Leica for giving us a relatively unprocessed in-camera RAW file to work with in PP.

Oh man...this thread has me salivating. I know that there are a lot of "what's broken on my M240" threads but this is encouraging.

I'm just waiting for prices to drop a little more before pulling the trigger.

I tried and M9 and while I LOVED the files...there was too much that I didn't like about it, and the 240 seems to have addressed them all.

For me, even though I love the RF for sure, having the capability of LV + a close up adapter (extension tube)would complete my camera experience. I'd have no need for any other system.

C'mon price drop! :)

I found one that was mint for 4K shipped that had about 2,800 frames on it. I have had it for less than 2 months and have put close to 8,000 flawless frames through it.

The shutter sound is great, the files can be worked over in raw like cookie dough and I love using the red frame line option in uber low light.

The thing just works, plain and simple.
