Scanning the film with an AF digicam takes me maybe 10 minutes to scan 1 36exp film.  I then convert it with negativelabpro.com - that's the bit that takes longer even though it is very easy and you just click a few buttons.  But I am getting scans which are about 8000x5000 big.

The lab scans I have gotten up to this point have been 1990s-level quality, which makes sense given that even current pro scanners are based on some pretty old tech. The color I get back from them is also off-putting. I got 1000x better color in the prints from literally any mini-lab back in the film days – not this expired slide film look that is all the rage today.

I'm at the teetering point right now of just selling my film M cameras and sticking with digital or having to invest in something like the Negative Supply gear and a macro lens like the Sigma 70 Art for my SL2-S to capture/scan them myself.

A used D750 w/ 60mm AF-D macro lens + ES-2 film copier + $20 Amazon light pad + negativelabpro.com will give you everything you need for superb 24mp 35mm scans for about $1100.

This. I bought myself the Negative Supply kit, and adapted a Nikkor 55mm f3.5 to my Fuji X-E4 and get quality scans every single time.

I need to do something like this.  I have an Epson V550 flatbed scanner but the scan quality is not great - it was actually better before I updated my Mac OS to Catalina and had to start using Epson Scan 2 and the matching drivers.  Scan quality definitely degraded after that.

I don't care about scan quality for prints since I wet print in the darkroom, but it would be nice to have quality scans for making self-published books/zines.

I highly recommend AF lenses for film scanning.  So much easier/quicker/more accurate with AF and live view.  I did it manually when I started out, and would fiddle continuously to get the focus just right.  Switched to AF - BOOM! in a sec focus nailed. When you scan with a decent digicam set up the default mode is high quality scans, so even though you may not print, the option is there if you do.

I'm not sure what the "R" lever should be like. is this one right?

Has anyone seen or received new/recent black chrome M-A cameras delivered with the 'round' style R lever like the silver M-A? I'm torn between silver and black, maybe leaning toward black but I'd really like the round style R lever as silly as it sounds.

You can ask your dealer to change for a black chrome round MP style R lever if the M-A comes with a square one !

Same for the vulvanite/leatherette which used to be different from the Silver to the black M-A models !

Thank you! That was my next question, if it's possible to swap so that's good to know.

I remember buying a MP in the store and showing the store owner a M-A on display with a leatherette I preferred . They did change it for me at my expense .
The references might be different due to the battery compartment of the MP but it can be done.

Thanks. That's interesting the lens release is the classic style. I do prefer that coming from older film M's before digital M's.

The M-A on the Leica official web page shows M-A black chrome with the "round" R lever and the classic style lens release button.

Seems like its an official change of the parts
