You're right.. it looks like they're updating something, the web shop says "new things coming soon", maybe a version 2 is around the corner. You can email Johannes, the owner, he was very responsive when I had some questions before purchasing (email on their contact me page).

I paid mine 116,81 EUR + 15 EUR shipping to Dubai.

I like the quality of it… ease of use as well. That shows you what an individual can do if given the means…

Although….. the other day I went out all day and photographed 2+rolls of a New Years parade in Philadelphia w/o a light meter…. My photos were spot on exposure.
 

So, if you follow the sunny 16 and know it… does one need a light meter? Admittedly more difficult as you do have to be on your toes but it forces you to maintain focus/ be in the zone…

On a clear day, shooting negative film, no. Use sunny 16 if your subject is in the light, or sunny 16 plus four stops if it's in the shade, and you're good.
A cloudy day, on the other hand, isn't so straightforward. And if you're shooting slides, all bets are off.

I should clarify that…. Using BW… not color… than one has more leeway and shooting w/o meter is pretty easy. Cloudy days too

Leica Wetzlar changed the red engravings on my M-A to match the orange/yellow engravings on my Summilux 35mm FLE. Might be the only M-A in the world that has this? Who knows, i'm very happy with it.

I requested it. Leica Wetzlar seems open to requests like this, but I also found out they don't do everything. Custom work on lenses seems to not be possible, but on cameras some things are possible. I've even seen a MP that was officially customized to black chrome. Turning the M-A into black paint is also possible. So, some form of a la carte is still available.

Yup my friend made his MA black paint and his MP black chrome, so def. possible if you ask nicely : p

Just to clarify please:

First you had to purchase the M-A in black chrome with the standard red engravings and then send it to Leica care in Wetzlar for replacing the red with yellow ones?

Or was a direct factory request (meaning no modification) after asking your Leica AD?

I hate you all. I let my GAS get the best of me after going thru this thread. The black MA was available on the Leica USA website so I pulled the trigger on it. This will go along with my M10-R.

There is no à la carte programme anymore however some customisation is indeed possible and costs some hundreds dollars/euros.

What I am curious to see is, if Leica will sooner or later replaces the leatherette  on the current M-A line-up, with the one being on the new M6 and MP. The coarse leatherette type which is on these models (new M6s and 2021/2+ MPs) is nicer in my eyes, than the one on the current M-As.

Just a personal opinion of course.

Are you sure the current M-A productions don't already have the same leatherette as the M6 reissue? On the official Leica website the product photos of both cameras show the same type of leatherette in my opinion.

Pretty positive, but not 100% sure.

I can certainly say that the new MP leatherette looks different from the one on the current M-As. 

Owning myself a silver chrome M-A and the leatherette is definitely more flat compared to the coarse one on the new MPs.

Given Leicas philosophy regarding parts that can be interchanged, it would seem that all 3 film cameras would now have same leatherettes… as material supply demands more uniformity. 
 

Looking at my MA…. Not sure where / what I would a-la-carte. I love the black chrome… whatever color on the camera is fine. It really is a blank slate to begin with… perhaps that alone is what I enjoy.
