jmr Posted July 29, 2006 Share #2 Â Posted July 29, 2006 Richard, Â nicely seen and executed. Often these very tilted shots fail to work - or at least they do when I take them - this one works well in my opinion.
stunsworth Posted July 29, 2006 Share #3 Â Posted July 29, 2006 Not so sure about the co-existance, I thought they took turns ;-) Â Lots of nice black.
semrich Posted July 29, 2006 Author Share #4 Â Posted July 29, 2006 John, Steve, thanks for you comments. This shot comes from some very lucky timing of my being there with the sun shining on the ceiling in that way. Â The co-existance is still evident with the Christian images and the Islamic writing sharing the same space. They didn't suffer the same fate as the giant Buddhas in Afganistan. pleeson Posted July 30, 2006 Share #5 Â Posted July 30, 2006 Interesting, almost eerie picture.
schn€id€r Posted July 30, 2006 Share #6  Posted July 30, 2006 a very convincing picture. Perhaps I would have placed the frame a bit more tightly at the bottom and thus cut a bit more from the bases of the lower windows, in order to give the image a clearer sense of being a well-deliberated detail. But apart from this, it works very well, in my view.  Best Michael
hm1912 Posted July 31, 2006 Share #7 Â Posted July 31, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) An interesting shot. I like the mood and composition. Historically, it was common for Muslims to convert pre-existing religious sites (temples, churches) to Mosques. And since Islam respects all the prophets (and Jesus) of Christianity and Islam, Muslims wouldn't destroy any likenesses of them. I'm not sure if this is exactly co-existence, but whatever one wants to call it, it makes for interesting history, and in this case, an interesting photograph. wilfredo Posted August 2, 2006 Share #9 Â Posted August 2, 2006 I enjoyed the shot. If it is not co-existance at the very least this sacred dome shows respect for a different tradition and it sends a clear message about tolerance. At a time when fundamentalists of all the Abrahamic traditions seem bent on holy war, this is a welcomed sight. Thanks for posting it.
