I recently got my Leica M6 serviced by Youxin Ye, and after receiving i decided to take it out for a test run with my Summicron 50mm F2 Dual Range.

I was all set to go until i noticed a problem...the lens does not focus all the way to infinity. It stops a lil bit after 10 meters..

I took a pic of it so everyone can see

Anyone know what the issue may be? I use this lens on my M3 alot and have no issues focusing to infinity at all :(

Why not call or email Mr. Ye? When I had a similar issue with a vintage Japanese lens I had acquired for a LTM body, he not only gave me a detailed great explanation, but also reassured me that the lens would properly focus on all my bodies, although the scale might be slightly off...being skeptical, I gave it a try and everything was fine.

That's exactly what i did!

He totally understood and had me ship it back

I miss the M6 very much but if it's not functioning properly, it def hurts worse lol

Hello,

This problem of M6 + 50mm DR may occure only from first batches of Leica M6.

I had solved this years ago, filing 1 or 2mm of plastic of the "cell protect", top of film chamber, near the "roller arm".

You can see this by unscrewing the optical cell of your DR, set at 1m, then mount the "non-lens" on the M6, move slowly the distance scale, and looking inside the barrel.

I wish I could say I'd be comfortable unscrewing parts but I'm not [emoji20]

Youxin says he doesn't know what he can do.

He's sending camera back

Has anyone ever encountered an issue like this before? Where an M6 did not work well and was limited in focus with a 50mm f2 Summicron? [emoji17]

It looks like i may have found my answer...this was found on Cameraquest.com

Compatibility: Leica has confirmed that the DR will not mount on all M6, due to internal changes of the film chamber. Try the DR on your M6 before you buy it, if possible. While the DR will mount on the Leica CL, Minolta CLE, the close-up attachment will not line up properly to these camera's viewfinders in the close focusing range. At least some DR's will fit and work fine on the Konica Hexar RF, with its near copy of the Leica M RF/VF. This is the only non Leica M camera that I know of which will allow the DR to work in the close-up focusing range. The DR will NOT mount on any digital Leica M8/8.2/9/10 that I have tried. Something about the lens mount is not the same as most Leica M lenses.

So it looks like this lens isn't really compatible for use on the Leica M6 :(

If you want, I will guide you to solve this small surgery.

First, as I have mentionned above, just a bit of filing out plastic.

Look at the film chamber, with no lens and your M6 upside down.

The part that stops your DR to go to infinity is the plastic that protects the small lens of the silicon sensor.

Filing it out just 1 or 2 millimeters, with the mount downward so the bits fall outside the M6.

Mount your DR and try to go to infinity slowly.

Then file again if need be.

As you can imagine, i'm incredibly nervous of trying this..

Would you happen to have a screenshot of what that looks like?
