    • Would have bought the special edition. Too bad it's sold out.

    • A digital camera without display doesn't make sense.

    • Leica is completely mad if they offer such a camera.

In March, walking around the dealers in Hong Kong, I counted 6 - one in every Leica-selling store I visited. I don't think that will have been exhaustive - I would be surprised to find a Leica store without one in stock.

Prices range from HK$100,000 or so, up to HK$150,000 (US$12,900 to US$19,300) per set, all brand new with warranty (though obviously not all 'officially' imported). I paid US$13,300 for my set, and I'm quite happy at that price level, even if the street price drops further, though I suspect the stock will clear at that discount, even though in Hong Kong right now you could buy a 1.4/35 FLE and M-P240 for about US$8,500 brand new.

Well the M Edition 60 has certainly divided opinion but is it really justified?

That's what I plan to find out over the next few weeks.

Thanks Leica UK. :)

Overall, A very expensive experience........ Nice, but no thank you......

It's a bit like a Porsche or Ferrari without a Speedo or Rev Counter""

Agreed. Shooting with this camera to someone used to digital, very much would feel like driving blind.

The original strap was cut and the end sewn over with an-oring attached. I can take a picture when home if you like.

Thanks jgoldstein2000. I get the picture, good solution, but I could not bring myself to have the straps cut (at least not at this early stage).

My opinion of the M60 is this:  I would like to know how you set ISO, white balance, metering mode, manual lens detection, DNG compression (or does this camera shoot only JPEGs) flash sync mode, frameline color, copyright information, date/time and language on a camera such as this which has no control buttons and no screen?

How about using the artificial horizon function and histogram? How about formatting memory cards?  How do you accomplish these tasks on an M60?
Do you have to send it to Leica NJ or to Wetzlar with a note detailing how you want to have the camera configured??

What do you do when you move from sunshine to tungsten lighting? Send the camera back to NJ or FRG to have the white balance changed??

The ISO setting covers a range of ISO 200 – 6400 in 1/3 ISO increments, and thus enables you to adapt the shutter speed/aperture values to the relevant situation as required. The setting is made using the adjusting dial on the rear of the camera. Turn it until the index point is aligned with the required value on the scale.

On this camera, exposure metering for the available ambient light is carried out through the lens with the working aperture (same as M9). The light reflected by a bright shutter diaphragm blade in the first shutter curtain is measured.

This camera stores picture data in uncompressed DNG format. Adobe® RGB is used as the color space. White balance is carried out automatically. (Having DNG raw files only as output white balance is irrelevant)

There is a function button which can be used to set-up time and date

Sd card have to be formatted using a computer

Language setting is meaningless, there are no menù items to be displaied (and no display)

This is not a LV camera, histogram and virtual horizon are not available
