M7 “Millenium”. Took me years to build this camera. I managed to make 8 of them.

M7 Minitar.  Took me 10 minutes to build this camera. I managed to make one of them.

Hari, is that beautiful BP lens a later edition than the "Millennium" lenses starting with sn 4.000.001?  The engraving on the lens is a slightly different style, too.

Yes, this lens is a v2 Summicron BP and was part of the Your Mark edition. I think the Ara Güler edition also came with a v2 BP summicron

That's a really compact lens with a respectable f2.8, how do you like it's performance @Huss?

It's a smeary mess that is sharp in the middle, saturates colours, heavy vignetting and has so much pincushion distortion I call it pincouch distortion.

I love it.

Unfortunately not that low a cost!  Compared to Leica glass - yes.  When it first was released the Chinese M lens invasion had not yet happened, and so the Minitar was the cheapest new M mount that was rangefinder coupled on the market.  Back then - 10:years ago? - it was $350.  Now it is $250 direct from Lomography while 7Artisans etc now have taken over the affordable M market.

Gosh that dream lens… lovely BP but with 11 aperture blades… How is someone so lucky to find it… Getting the Your Mark and selling all the rest? 🥲

Very nice M7  Hari

For your info , I have just entrusted the M7 (for a counter problem that does not return to zero) to my Leica Store Paris to send to Wetzlar ....  the delay is 7 months  🥲  .... surprising isn't it  ?  they no longer have competent technicians ?

Hi Henry,

They’ve been trying to hire and train new employees for the analogue cameras. Looks like the efforts need to be intensified … 7 months is a long time. Hoping your camera comes back like new and gives you many more years of great images.

Best Wishes,

Hari

Could be a couple of things at play here, the increased interest in and purchase of Leica's older film cameras and perhaps the reported lack of good QC on Leica's new ones necessitating early returns to Wetzlar for corrections of faults that should have been caught before they left the factory. All of which has been putting a strain on what appears to be their undermanned service departments and hence we suffer the long delays in Leica repairs of all kinds.

Not analogue, but my Panasonic GH4 had to go in for service last month and Pana' warned me that there would be a long delay before I received it back, "probably up to three weeks"...............

That is good news, however there is a vast difference between replacing a couple of printed circuits (or whatever) on a digital camera and working on an analogue model. Also one or two independent technicians have been known to take up to 18 months to complete work on a Leica. The fact is that there is a chronic shortage of people able to carry out this kind of work, lets hope that things can improve.

Yes you're right of course, it is probably much easier to switch out a circuit board than delve into a mechanical camera, but even troubled digital Leica's go into the rabbit hole of Leica Service for a long time, I don't think there's too much difference between service / repair times for either digital or film Leica's in my experience with both anyway...........Actually trying to get almost anything serviced swiftly and properly these days is wishful thinking.

Interesting, Leica New Jersey adjusted the shutter and serviced my M7 late last year in about 3 months. I would expect Leica Wetzlar to have the advantage here but maybe not.
