schattenundlicht Posted June 30, 2017 Share #641 Posted June 30, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) My 2002 #2785669 has the old DX sensing device. It often misreads films (either blinking or showing some arbitrary ISO). Since the manual ISO settings on the wheel do not lock properly, I still use the DX setting but have acquired the habit of looking through the viewfinder, whenever I switch the camera on, to confirm the correct ISO setting. It's a bit of a nuisance, but then, a 15 year old camera may benevolently be granted some idiosyncrasies. I don't mind, since I use the film Ms for a slower mode of working anyway.

android_pt Posted June 30, 2017 Share #642 Posted June 30, 2017 I believe you can get the DX reader replaced with the new one by Leica for free. I read that some place. The problem is the long time you need to wait without your M7

The problem is the long time you need to wait without your M7 It is true that they still do the replacement. It took about 6 weeks or so (I think) earlier this year. wattsy Posted July 11, 2017 Share #650 Posted July 11, 2017 Do Leica do a CLA on the M7 when replacing the film readers, included for free? I can't say for sure because I had it done via Leica customer care in Mayfair and for some reason they never give me the associated Wetzlar paperwork when I pick an item up from repair. To the extent that Leica have to take the camera apart to fit the optical DX reader they will almost certainly give the camera a proper check and routine adjustment to standards when they put it all back together again. Whether that extends to a "clean and lube" I don't know but the camera certainly looked clean and felt 'right'.

Interpolated, I would say a CLA is included, even if they don't say so. On that basis, I will probably send mine over rather than give it to my local (very good) Leica service place, as I don't think they are able to do it as a free service. Erl, I think your local Leica service cannot do himself this work and he must send to Wetzlar. I confirm what Ian (Wattsy) said Henry

I also confirm that Leica does the replacement of the dx reader for free and they do a complete CLA for free.I did it 2 years ago on my M7 purchased in the 2002 (first production lot). They usually makes first an inspection and send to you a quotation in case there are other things to be repaired. They also change the leatherette with a new one, little bit different from the original, but equally good. However my M7 even with the new DX reader sometimes reads a wrong ISO, so I check always in the viewfinder and most of the time set manually the ISO. Tytan Posted August 3, 2017 Share #659 Posted August 3, 2017 just got my M7 back from Wetzlar .. after 3 months. was sent there for some alignment adjustments. the DX reader was updated, free of charge. didn't request for it, but they did it anyway. one quick question. the film's loaded, a few frames have been shot ... i've noticed that the rewind knob is loose, rotates very easily, without any resistance at all. is this normal? I don't recall what it was like before ... thanks..
