Doc Henry Posted September 8, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) ...open thread Since I did not see any thread "I love my (Leica) M7" I'll open one, if you agree. My M7, I mean my 2 M7, make me great service and to thank this camera for services rendered, I start to post you a picture of my latest acquisition, instead of a M240. I "became allergic" to digital photos (edges and "smooth"* lines, "synthetic images"* for some pictures, "flat" and "without consistency" * "perfectible color" (compared to film), all of this brings me to leave my two Leica M digital more and more at home, now used as back up and my 2 M7 become my main camera, they accompany me everywhere even at 12,000 Kms from here. Each M7 has its attached lens , with one camera b&w film, and the other color film ! Here's a photo of my M7, that I just prescribe for me as "anti-allergic"digital image ! If you share my opinion , thank you to leave your comments or/and post a photo of your favorite camera You are welcome I know there has been problems with DX , but in my case I have no problem with my two M7 I just bought fifty rolls of Kodak Portra (160 and 400) , and my supplier at Paris told me that this film works very hard, he sells a lot. Film is not dead ! Best Henry * in italics, are the terms of my Leica Center consultant who retired this year , that I know him since the 1980s ! Welcome, dear visitor! waterman1 Posted September 8, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 8, 2014 First time in this forum. Just received my mint Leica M7. Last week I was in Downtown LA and there was a demonstration for higher wages. As I was walking past the LAPD line one of the officers yells out "is that a Leica film camera?" After spending about 10 minutes talking to LAPD, they let me inside the yellow line in order to take photos. Now I have to wait until tomorrow to see how the images look. Welcome, dear visitor! Nice story Water about LAPD Thanks for posting ! impressive equipment The comments above on the "color fidelity" of film without the need of image correction by software are shown in post number 1273 here : http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/286747-i-like-film-open-thread-64.html The M7 is a M8 or M9 without sensor ! I let on "Auto" and I shoot ... for the "decisive moment" said Henri Cartier Bresson Best Henry
Doc Henry Posted September 9, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) Faithful color and nice grey scale with M7 and film without correction software no "smooth" edge of poppy http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/286747-i-like-film-open-thread-74.html Henry Edited September 9, 2014 by Doc Henry
Doc Henry Posted September 10, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, Just to show you that picture and sound have the "same fight" , I photographed my first M7 next to my "tube" amplifier ... that our parents used on their radio station, you remember ! The modern world has made disappear, fortunately not all , as there are tubes for amplifiers ! The sound is the best in my opinion. Classical music, opera or symphony (listen Verdi or Puccini or choirs of the 9th symphony of Beethoven or Bach cantata and you will see), or the violins... is reproduced with perfect fidelity, especially if you often go to concert. A jazz band (Thelonious Monk or Charlie Mingus or Ray Charles...) is also faithfully reproduced. So I compare it with images from the film including images from the Leica M7 body... or other M analog. for the color fidelity and just measure of exposure. That's what I call high fidelity of the "image" as the high fidelity of the "sound" ! Welcome, dear visitor! Doc Henry Posted September 11, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted September 11, 2014 (edited) TX400 , really sensitive film M7 Apo Summicron 90 Asph with monopod I like the "moody" side as Allen said or "soft" side, "not aggressive" to the view, film grain plays a lot in the perception of the photo Regards Henry Hi All, I took the photo above with the M7 and Apo Summicron 90 Asph in difficult light conditions , putting in "Auto" position and with a monopod. I thought it would not work but finally I am surprised at the result with a soft image and fine grain in my opinion. and another one bellow : with Apo Summicron 90 Asph + monopod Kodak TX400 Best Henry You can see these pictures in "I like film" thread : post 1382 http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/286747-i-like-film-open-thread-70.html and post 1378: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/286747-i-like-film-open-thread-69.html Edited September 11, 2014 by Doc Henry

BennyNg Posted September 27, 2014 Share #12 Posted September 27, 2014 I'm a big fan of the M7 too. Quite tempted to pick up a silver M7 but thank goodness the "a la carte" models are rare as hen's teeth. Cheers,

What is is it going to give you beyond the available M7 models in terms of performance? .

My point was to 'allow' those who enjoy 'add-ons' etc to do so. Personally, my kit is entirely function driven, with one exception. My M9 when sent for repair, returned with the MP upgrade, paid for by insurance somehow. I do like the top plate script, but otherwise there is no functional advantage.
hamey Posted September 27, 2014 Share #17 Posted September 27, 2014 Henry. I must admit, I love my M7 too. Shown here with it's new room mate. However I don't have the same affection for it as I do the M7, probably because it's not a film camera. My Daughter is interested in the M240 so in time I might pass it on to her, but not the M7....Lol. Ken. Welcome, dear visitor! Doc Henry Posted September 27, 2014 Author Share #18 Posted September 27, 2014 Ken , very nice combo Thanks for posting I just told Arnaud (by MP) I am very happy with my 2 M7, during my last mission in Southeast Asia. It was very hot and humid. I also had my M8 and M9 (but as back up) Only the M7 gave me satisfaction with "uncorrected" color and true to what I see. It was also through the film. I also like the M7 because when you walk on the tracks or unstable trails for several hours, it is quite tired and sometimes you do not mind to find the right measure of exposure. Once I put on "Auto" I set the aperture (landscape f:11 or 14 or portrait f:1.4-2- 5.6) and I shoot . I have not missed one photo of my last medical humanitarian mission I'll report my last mission and I'll put this quadriptych on the front page. What do you think ? Welcome, dear visitor! Well said. I'm no Leica fanboy but I do enjoy some of their offerings. However, I tire when I see trolls bashing Leica users for their gear choice when it is obvious there are no incremental performance gain or that it has a ridiculous cost to performance ratio.
