piblondin Posted August 13, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted August 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can someone explain to me the preference that most people have for tabbed lenses? I find that I'm noticeably slower to focus my tabbed lenses (40mm Summicron, 50mm and 35mm Summilux) vs. my untabbed lenses. I simply find it easier to grip and turn the focus ring than I do to manipulate it with a single finger. Am I missing something in my technique? dj_61 Posted August 13, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted August 13, 2014 I find the tab very useful in 'portrait mode' not so much in 'landscape'... It keeps me from blocking the finder with my hand.
Numbers Posted August 13, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted August 13, 2014 I definately prefer them as I can focus more precisely and faster. But I can appreciate that some people dont like them. It would be nice if it was possible to have a choice to have them put on or taken of during service. At a cost, of course.

rirakuma Posted August 13, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted August 13, 2014 I really like the tabbed lenses because it lets me set focus distance without looking at the lens. Its handy for lenses 35mm and below but for my 50mms I don't use it very often. For fine focusing I prefer using the knurled barrel.
Bill W Posted August 13, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted August 13, 2014 Some folks have gone to the extent of taking them off but I find them handy. It is second nature for those lens that do not have one to use what is there.
TomB_tx Posted August 13, 2014 Share #7  Posted August 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Depends a lot on the size of the lens. The v2 Summicron 35 would be almost impossible to focus without the tab: Welcome, dear visitor!
