swamiji Posted June 20, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well I had my first lockup today. Maybe not. The camera did freeze, wouldn't turn off. I got the message that the camera could not find the FW, and to reinstall it. I took out and reinserted the battery, and all was well. I hope! swamiji Posted June 20, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted June 20, 2014 Let me be the first to welcome you to the 'Lock-up club'. We are getting new members everyday now!!! Hopefully the new firmware which should be released on May 24th will fix the issues. Thank you for your warm welcome. I guess I AM a member, but I'd rather be a member of the 50mm APO new user club. I just wonder which May 24th it will be released, and how many known bugs are in it?
250swb Posted June 20, 2014 Share #4 Posted June 20, 2014 I had three lock-ups in the first two days, and none at all in the intervening months. I felt it was possibly because of a combination of button pressing with an unfamiliar camera that caused it, becoming impatient with the wake up time, or the new camera needed the battery in it for longer to charge the internal battery. It isn't something I worry about. Steve
swamiji Posted June 20, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted June 20, 2014 Steve, did you get an error message, or did it just freeze? My case was quite different, the body I six months old, and the batteries are not new. It was a nice temperature, I had been using the EVF, but not at the time of the lockup. I had just shot about 250 pics, and was waking it up from sleeping, in prep for another few shots, no real hurry. I press half way down and got the error message, and nothing worked. mirekti Posted June 20, 2014 Share #6 Posted June 20, 2014 I have some 15k shots. Up to now maye three lockups, and the first one happened after six months. I also has 5-10 black photos. All in all, not so bad given the number of shots.
Chito Posted June 20, 2014 Share #7 Posted June 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine was made on late Jan 2014. I bought it in the middle of February and about a month later it locked up. I was just sitting in my room fiddling with it. At the time I didn't own the EVF and had just one lens. No error messages, just freezed.. I remember thinking... oh well, this is what everybody has been talking about.. did the battery pull, and it has been working perfectly since without any lockups.. swamiji Posted June 20, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted June 20, 2014 Interesting, my error message, was strange as it went into detail in how to load the firmware..
wlaidlaw Posted June 20, 2014 Share #9 Posted June 20, 2014 Pant....pant .....pant. We are working hard on the new FW. Please be patient for just a little longer. Better good than quick. Wilson
epand56 Posted June 20, 2014 Share #10 Posted June 20, 2014 Another member of the 'Lock-up club', here. Just one time only though. Took out the battery, inserted again and anything was ok.
tundraline Posted June 20, 2014 Share #11 Posted June 20, 2014 My new M240 locked up 4 times yesterday. Problem solved each time by turning power off (the battery did have to be taken out and re-inserted). Hope this is only an initial glitch, and not a recurring problem. helohe Posted June 20, 2014 Share #12 Posted June 20, 2014 maybe pressed the info button accidentally while turning it on, and it tried to update the firmware?

250swb Posted June 20, 2014 Share #15 Posted June 20, 2014 Steve, did you get an error message, or did it just freeze? . It seemed to be after waking up the camera, but to be honest if something doesn't happen when I want it to I press the button again so may never see a warning message even if there was one. All I know is the camera stopped working with everything blank. But it has cleared completely (touching wood) since then, so this may be a glitch that happens at some time or other, but not often enough and consistently enough to identify the actual culprit. dante Posted June 21, 2014 Share #16 Posted June 21, 2014 Why are these problems increasing in frequency?
jdlaing Posted June 21, 2014 Share #17 Posted June 21, 2014 Why are these problems increasing in frequency? Gee. Maybe because there are a lot more cameras out there? And of all the posters on this forum they are still minuscule to the number of cameras sold. Not very comforting to the ones having the issues but it is what it is. jaapv Posted June 21, 2014 Share #19 Posted June 21, 2014 Let's face it, these things are computers. Spinning balls, blue screens, total freezes....
swamiji Posted June 21, 2014 Author Share #20 Posted June 21, 2014 Well the Elbonians who coded the firmware, should have used better than an Apple QuickTake for testing. All kidding aside, error messages (if any) are useful to help debug the code. Too bad there is not an easy way to obtain the codes and report them. Even the blue screen of death has meaning. So my camera could not find the FW, and I had to reboot. Ok, such as life. As long as it doesn't become too obnoxious. Life goes on.
