pragmatist Posted June 14, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Really tempted by one on ebay listed new at £4000 but not sure whether it's worth just spending an extra £800 and getting one from a dealer. Advertisement Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Hi pragmatist, Take a look here M240 on ebay. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

pragmatist Posted June 14, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted June 14, 2014 I think you may be right. The chap in question bought 2 M's because he was not sure which colour he liked and pre ordered at a time when there was a long waiting time and has had this spare unopened one for 8 months. I just keep getting little annoying alarm bells ringing in my head which is probably a shame as it's more than likely legit.
fotoism Posted June 14, 2014 Share #4 Posted June 14, 2014 It might be worth your trouble to buy from this seller if: 1. he can provide the original receipt to proof it was purchased from an authorized Leica dealer, and 2. the package was unopened/sealed and all paperwork is not filled in yet, and 3. you can do a face-to-face inspection before finalizing payment, and 4. he has a good history. Otherwise the savings can buy you extra headache.
AlanJW Posted June 14, 2014 Share #5 Posted June 14, 2014 My dealer (in the US) has a M240 that was boxed as a demo by Leica but never used. It is for sale at a very significnat discount. PM for details if you are interested.

Not sure if it was an official Leica dealer but he did say we can meet face to face to inspect first.

AlanJW Posted June 14, 2014 Share #8 Posted June 14, 2014 UK import fees will crucify me unfortunately. If you could get a cheap airfare . . . I will buy you a beer. Some years ago when airfares were lower, I sold my Nikon D1 to a fellow from the UK, who came over for it, paid me, rejected all the boxes I had saved, stuffed the camera in his backback, and went back to the UK. jaques Posted June 15, 2014 Share #11 Posted June 15, 2014 when I sold my Hasselblad 500 CWD I flew to Bangkok from Australia to personally deliver it to the buyer. Had a great time!
mmradman Posted June 15, 2014 Share #12 Posted June 15, 2014 Really tempted by one on ebay listed new at £4000 but not sure whether it's worth just spending an extra £800 and getting one from a dealer. If you wait for long it may be gone. If I didn't have mine I would be tempted to jump in the car and drive all the way to sunny Cornwall.
thighslapper Posted June 15, 2014 Share #13 Posted June 15, 2014 You have to remember that by definition of the target audience a fair few Leica buyers have more money than sense ...... and keeping a spare M if you can afford it is not so daft as it sounds...... I have 2, X-Varios ..... silver and black for basically similar idiotic reasons ....... I keep meaning to sell the black ...... but as the silver has gone to Wetzlar to have an eyelash removed for the sensor () .... I will be hanging onto it for a while longer .... and then no doubt inertia will kick in....... and it will appear on eBay later in the year with an equally implausible story ...... paulsydaus Posted June 15, 2014 Share #14 Posted June 15, 2014 Just a minor point of clarification, unfortunately no Leica lenses or camera's are shipped "sealed"... It might be worth your trouble to buy from this seller if:1. he can provide the original receipt to proof it was purchased from an authorized Leica dealer, and 2. the package was unopened/sealed and all paperwork is not filled in yet, and 3. you can do a face-to-face inspection before finalizing payment, and 4. he has a good history. Exodies Posted June 15, 2014 Share #15 Posted June 15, 2014 My dealer opened the outer grey box with a knife when he presented me with my lens.
Bill W Posted June 16, 2014 Share #16 Posted June 16, 2014 I guess I cannot ever remember receiving a Leica "sealed" if there is such a thing.
Ecaton Posted June 17, 2014 Share #17 Posted June 17, 2014 I guess I cannot ever remember receiving a Leica "sealed" if there is such a thing. They seal the box, not the cameras
