250swb Posted June 9, 2014 Share #21 Posted June 9, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) What do you feed your camera on? Putting my M9 and M240 side by side they are exactly the same size.... Exactly? Perhaps you have the 'Lite' version, but for most people the M240 is bigger by a good millimetre. Measure the top plate and then tell me they are exactly the same size. But that isn't what I was specifically referring to, so now go and weigh them, because it seems to me you conveniently forget the M9 is closer in weight to a film M than it is to the M240, a camera that is considerably heavier. 'Fat' is often hidden on the inside. Steve

250swb Posted June 9, 2014 Share #23 Posted June 9, 2014 It can hardly be a strange coincidence because the heavier battery is need to power all those useful things the M240 does, like video. Weighing cameras in the state they are meant to be used is far from strange, because a digital camera without a battery isn't a camera, it is a collection of parts with the potential to be a camera. So leaving aside the strap an M9 with card and battery is lighter than an M6 TTL with battery and film loaded. I think that is strangely unexpected. 'Fat' is often hidden on the inside. Steve i put the bottom plates back to back. There is virtually nothing in it. Yes, it it a bit heavier, but if I were for instance to swop out the silver Summilux 50 for a black one I would have more than recovered the weight difference. I've just weighed my silver M9 with silver Summilux 50 asph and it weighs 1090 grams. Can somebody post how much for a M240 with the black lens? i am not such a delicately built type as to notice a a couple of ounces one way or the other. By coincidence I had friends over last night who have no photographic background whatever. I always leave the X1 lying around in such cases as otherwise somebody will grab the M to make some OOF images for me to delete. They were passing the poor old X1 around to feel how heavy it is. pedaes Posted June 9, 2014 Share #25 Posted June 9, 2014 By some strange coincidence, the battery in the M is also a good bit heavier than the one in the M9. And lasts soooooo much longer per charge! Just one of the great benefits of M over M9 IMHO..

Odd logic because the M9 user can equally swap a "silver Summilux 50 for a black one" and enjoy a continued weight advantage. You could also swap your silver Summilux for a pin-hole body cap and enjoy an even greater weight saving (albeit with some loss of sharpness). krieves Posted June 10, 2014 Share #27 Posted June 10, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I like the look of the silver better, but I bought the black because it call less attention to the camera. To most people, it looks like a point-n-shoot camera and is less intimating. The silver body is classic looking.

What? You don't know how to focus a Camera Obscura? This is what happens when everyone uses auto-focus!

pragmatist Posted June 10, 2014 Author Share #31 Posted June 10, 2014 So basically it's roughly 50/50 on colour choice

To most people, it looks like a point-n-shoot camera and is less intimating. The silver body is classic looking. Having started with my father's M4, then years later my own M6. IMO silver is and can be the only colour. However, accepted, I'm just nostalgic.
schmolinski Posted June 10, 2014 Share #33 Posted June 10, 2014 I got a black one because it was available, I would have been just as happy with a silver one. One thing I noticed: the black coating on the M240 is far more resilient than the one on the M9. It does not brass easily. Black is beautiful! I Love mine. But I have to confess that the M240 isn't as resilient as my M9 was. The brassing started after four weeks at the right and left radius.. Any way I love it
genefama Posted June 11, 2014 Share #34 Posted June 11, 2014 I don't like the black paint on the M240. Funny thing is, I thought it was the nicest finish on the more-svelte M9 or M9-P but it just looks clunky and less machine-like on the M240. If the black were the same as it is on the Monochrom I might like it better but from the current choices, silver is best.
