tadeyev Posted May 29, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 29, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Does anyone here have some global price indications for getting a CLA and new covering in vulkait for an MP from Leica in Wetzlar? I found a reasonable priced MP but it might become just as expensive as some other offers if this costs a lot to get done.... Thanks in advance, Tadeyev
Advertisement Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Hi tadeyev, Take a look here CLA and vulkanit covering?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
topoxforddoc Posted May 29, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 29, 2014 Is yours an original MP? If so, how bad is the vulcanite? The value may be reduced, as some collectors prefer originality. However, if you want to use it, then maybe you should consider sending it to Peter Grisalfi at CRR Luton in the UK. He can replace the vulcanite with a near perfect match and do your CLA. tadeyev Posted May 29, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted May 29, 2014 I know him he is great. But I am now near Germany and I would like to know the Leica pricing (roughly) for that work. Thanks in any case.
250swb Posted May 29, 2014 Share #4 Posted May 29, 2014 There are so many open ended answers to this question it is impossible to answer. Is it an original Leica MP, if so why do you want to devalue it by having the vulcanite replaced? If it is a current Leica MP what has happened to the covering that it needs recovering? If you have a current Leica MP that you would simply prefer in a heavier textured vulcanite style of covering why not just phone Leica and ask for the price? Stealth3kpl Posted May 29, 2014 Share #5 Posted May 29, 2014 I was charged £540 to change the MP finder from 0.72 to 0.72-3, replace the covering with Vulcanite, and a CLA. I imagne you're looking at about £400. Pete
250swb Posted May 29, 2014 Share #6 Posted May 29, 2014 Good grief, you mean changing the finder is £140 and a bit of plastic £400! Steve

Stealth3kpl Posted May 30, 2014 Share #8 Posted May 30, 2014 Good grief, you mean changing the finder is £140 and a bit of plastic £400! Steve Well, I imagine the CLA was £250 and the plastic £150 Still, what price (mechanical) perfection? Pete
topoxforddoc Posted May 31, 2014 Share #9 Posted May 31, 2014 Changing the vulcanite is not just a stick on process (like cheaper leatherette coverings). The camera has to be taken apart and the vulcanite heated so that it will bend and fit the camera body shell. Then it is fitted under heat and pressure. CRR in Luton charge £95 for this.
