Repair turnaround

Advertisement (gone after registration)

My m240 and lenses are in wetzlar for a callibration checkup. Current turnaround time quoted is end of June (dropped it in at Mayfair leica start of May). Anyone else being quoted 8-9 weeks for a repair?

Yes, for a dropped Summilux 50 asph. Actual turnaround was a lot faster, 3 ½ weeks despite the move to Wetzlar at the same time. I was fairly surprised to see the box turn up.

Rangefinder adjustment/sensor cleaning on my M9 took 7 weeks (done free of charge during the end of the extended warranty period). This was exactly during the move from Solms to Wetzlar.

My only experience with Leica repairs is when using their 'professional service' (which requires proof and registration of status). Its second to none. Fabulous in fact. As a small(ish) company they obviously face pressures which larger companies do not in terms of number of personnel engaged on repairs, but when they try they certainly succeed. I'm sorry if it takes longer for other repairs, although I do understand just why this is, but I'm impressed that Leica can turn pro repairs around quickly and efficiently despite not have a repair facility in the UK. Credit where it is due and it is due as far as I'm concerned.

I threw my Apo Summicron 75mm onto a stone floor recently. Looks perfect, but the focus ring won't turn. Leica Mayfair told me Wetzlar has acknowledged longer than usual turnaround times at present and, at worst, to be prepared for 3 months for a rebuild.

So as it approaches the end of the month, Leica uk can't unfortunately give me an update as to if its likely I will get my camera back before the end of the month.

 

Does anyone have a contact for them for an update? I remember reading a while back there was a representative that forum members were recommending that could provide updates.

Just simply call Leica Customer Service.....

So credit where due, I was contacted by a senior person at Leica cs uk and informed that the camera was unlikely to be returned within the 8 week estimate. They then offered the loan of a body and one of the lenses that I had sent cross with the promise that if a 50mm loan turned up before my repair, they would send that out to me.
