Who will upgrade (cosmetically) M to M-P

I came to digital Leicas late after starting with film M's and got the M9P as my first digital camera. Aesthetically, it is very pleasing to the eye as it compares well to my M3, M2 and MP.

Not being able to wait for the M240P, I got a black M early on though I've always been partial to chrome bodies.

I'll probably upgrade to a chrome M-P if offered, knowing full well it would do nothing for my photography. Who else is a shallow as I am?

I wont, as much as i like the look of the M9P over the M9 - i have my M240 now, it will be my last camera purchase for quite a while (need more lenses)

I do intend to get a black dot, but for the moment im happy with the M the way it is

I do think the M as it is, is really quite ugly. So any improvement in that area is worth some money. On the other hand the M and me have hardly bonded, so I'm reluctant to spend more money on it. There is no "this is my camera for life" feeling, and why upgrade a camera when you know you're going to sell it as soon as the next M is available.

( for example my Monochrom is different. Obviously It won 't last a lifetime, but it does feel like a camera that I have bonded with so much that I can see myself owning it untill the end (of the camera/of the devaluation on the second hand market))

That said I am wonder how much upgrading will help the M sell on the second hand market when the next M is about to be released. Would somebody care to share their views how that was with the M9? Did the upgrade of the M9 change its worth much on the second hand market?

IMHO The M is rather an ugly duckling, technically proficient, but something is not well balanced about the styling (as was the case with the M5). The M9 Titanium did a much better job of filling the extra space with its enlarged and domed red-dot, perhaps a minor tweak in this direction could be introduced with the next revision. I'm not sure how one could satisfactorily fill all the available space from the omitted frameline illumination with a single screw like an M9-P.

I just did a photoshop exercise for fun. I think the M240 is too showy and I much prefer something more utilitarian like this. I don't really mind the extra space so much. I feel like there is already a lot going on, especially with all the circle shapes on the front of the camera.

Sorry about the logo hack, I don't think I have the Leica Font so I mashed up some from an M4-p.

Pretty pointless given infra red sniper scopes will pick you out anyway, and leave your camera undamaged. I think a chrome version will at least mark you out as a photographer and the red dot will show you are a serious one. So a completely black camera seems a dangerous option in the dream world of imagining you are ever inconspicuous.

I don't think I would bother to buy a "P" version of the M240. I use my chrome M240 out on the street and have never had any reaction from anyone regarding the camera (Red Dot and black letter M over chrome). I'm very happy with the way my M240 looks as it is.

To each his/her own, but I don't think the M240 is ugly. The orangered logo is another matter , however.

I'm eyeballing the 12mm black logo that is available, although removing the orangered logo sounds like somewhat of a pain in the keister.

Too bad you have not bonded with your M240, pieterpronk. I have not had that issie.

Black insulation tape is a lot less expensive.

Maybe it's less expensive. I would still prefer a Black Mp over a taped up camera. I had tape on my M6 until it made the whole body very sticky.

Perhaps I was influence by car interior designs, premium rides do not expose any screws or bolts visiblily. Only Leather with Wood or Carbon fiber/Metalic finish on top of soft plastic.

MP or M, I just cannot accept an exposed screw smack right in the face of a premium product. Prefer Red dot or Black dot over the screw cosmetically anytime.

It would be quite interesting to see the actual numbers of M9's changed to M9P's and, when/if it happens, M240's changed to M240P's. I wonder if the percentages would differ. It seems to me changing your camera to P for 1000€ says something about whether or not you expect to exchange it for the next M which is bound to be released about a year later, or if you expect it to be a camera for a longer stretch of time.

The M9 had a certain vibe going that we didn't need anything more, it was the perfect full frame rangefinder, that we could use forever. (Even forgetting ergomical problems like the loud shutter, and the lousy high iso performance).

In theory one could say that the M240 is really everything you need. It's full frame, is ergonomically mature (except if you want to dabble in the dark arts of evf-focussing) and provides plenty of high iso performance for most conditions. But it seems to me to have less of this vibe going. Maybe we have become wiser, maybe liveview and evf showed us a world where it can always be done better and thus it has taken us into world of continuously updated cameras. Anyway would love to see the percentages and numbers of -P updates, as I think it says something about the markets reception and appreciation of the M. Too bad we will never see them. :)

I love those photoshop suggestions, 2WK. Those look so much better than the way it looks now. Almost better than the Monochrom, which is quite an achievement. And seeing those pictures makes me realize I'm such a sucker for cosmetics and design.

A more minimal version. And why not black out all the metal, since early MPs were blackened for war photographers. You don't want anything glinting out there!

Thanks for this exercise, in black chrome it would be worthy of a future Monocrom. For use on the street, this looks ideal. I prefer having no Leica text on the front, I get fewer questions about my camera.

Sillbeers15, the advantage of the screw over the stick-on Leica logo is that it enables vertical adjustment of the rangefinder, if it should go out of adjustment on an extended trip in the middle of nowhere.
