Is there anything particular I have to check or be sure of about the camera prior to leave the shop with it? Any owner of a Leica M240 have had any problem or surprise after buying their camera? mmradman Posted May 1, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2014 Bring a memory card & one lens with you, seller should have charged battery for a demo camera so ask to use it. Power up your camera, do camera settings and than some test shots before you part with the money. This way you will discover any major problem, not much to ask for such a purchase. You may find that the sensor's a bit dusty on first use - but this is nothing to worry about. Invest in a good blower with a non-return valve and this will fix most issues. Long term I'd recommend an Arctic Butterfly brush and sensor loupe if you've not got one. Jeff S Posted May 1, 2014 Share #5 Posted May 1, 2014 Other than what's been said, shop from a reputable Leica dealer known for quality handling of customer issues (doesn't have to be your local shop, but nice if it is), and line up insurance in advance. And maybe keep your M8, if you still have it, as back-up. You can't predict problems, but you can prepare for them if they happen. Enjoy. Is there an upgrade due at Photokina in September? Not very likely and if there would be one, it'd most likely be a P-version with mostly cosmetic changes and internals remaining the exactly same. And if old patterns stand, current model owners could upgrade theirs to new spec.. In many ways Leica isn't in a hurry to upgrade as the current M is just reaching it's full potential with the latest firmware upgrades. Welcome to the club . No problem for me. The Olympus VF-2 can be had for around 200 EUR on e**y so no need to purchase the Leica version which is more expensive but identical electronically. Photograph piece of white paper in the store and zoom in on monitor, new camera should have no dust. I like Sensor Gel Stick by photographylife.com and air blower for cleaning. hamey Posted May 2, 2014 Share #11 Posted May 2, 2014 I bought mine last tuesday after cancelling last year's order, however reading so much praise on the M240 on this forum I tought of taking a chance on it. Yesterday it had a Lock up, ok simply re-in-stall battery, that worked and working fine so far. I find the exposure on the under for my liking, ok move the EV to 0.3 0r 0.7 thats fine. Quite a bit of post processing compared to my Canon, but when fixed the images are superb, however to my eyes Fuji Provia 100 slide film is nicer I am still on the learning curve with it so I am prepared to put up with it's quirks. I also bought the R to M adapter but not as yet tried it on the M240. The weather here in Melbourne is lousy, (going into winter) so hopefully when the sun pops out I will try some more exposures with it. So did I make a huge mistake, let you know shortly. Ken. Ken. I didn't even open the box until I got back to Tokyo on the weekend and put some shots through it 3 days ago. Everything is hunky dory. The only thing to note is that not all soft release will screw into the shutter button. I researched after the fact and realised Leica changed the threading. That's the only thing to be aware of. Edit: One thing to note is that (at least my M240) shutter release seems very sensitive (coming from the M9). I've had double-shots in single mode. I've had double-shots in single mode. I had zero complaints with the shutter release of either M8 or M9, the Sony A7r after those was terrible.. felt like squeezing a balloon. Now the M240 is fantastic. I reckon it's even better than the M8/M9 shutter release.. for the lack of better way of describing it, I'll go ahead and call it "more precise".
