MarkP Posted May 31, 2014 Share #102 Posted May 31, 2014 Edward, ever tried some wildlife / bird photography manual focussing? One of those things I also prefer a dslr. That comment was really funny. You so took on the wrong person on the topic of wildlife photography :D
tookaphotoof Posted June 1, 2014 Share #103 Posted June 1, 2014 Definitely. There are times you learn to try harder before you speak!
krieves Posted June 2, 2014 Share #104 Posted June 2, 2014 I recently bought an M because 1) it is an optical rangefinder camera, 2) it is manual focus, 3) the camera's quality, and 4) the quality of the Leica lenses. An M doesn't do it all, that's why my "bread and butter" camera is a Canon 5D MkIII. For macro work, use with zooms, and shooting moving subjects it does the job and brings home the paycheck. I bought the M not to replace my DSLRs but to add to my capabilities. They a different cameras and each fills a different need. M's and T's are very different too. They should each keep to their individual markets. Anyway that's my humble opinion.
AlanJW Posted June 2, 2014 Share #105 Posted June 2, 2014 Whatever they do, please please no touch screens. I hate touch screens. I used to feel the same way but I have been persuaded by the T that the touch interface is easier and far more intuitive than the existing M system where menus are buried and one can never remember what is uder "Set" and what is under "Menu". I also swore I would never use a touchscreen on a phone as I was a Blackberry keyboard fan. Then I got an iPhone and I would never go back. So never say never. edwardkaraa Posted June 2, 2014 Share #106 Posted June 2, 2014 Read below and eat your heart out. Amateur Photographer published a series of interviews with Stefan Daniel (product manager at Leica) and Alfred Schopf (Leica's CEO). Here are the main pionts from the interviews: Leica received "very nice" amount of orders for the Leica T They chose APS-C sensor for the Leica T in order to keep the size of the camera and lenses small The Leica T sensor is made by Sony The Leica T is hand polished in Portugal Leica will not reveal the name of the manufacturer that makes Leica T lenses in Japan and apparently it is not Panasonic (I already reported rumors that the new T lenses could be produced by Sigma) In the future Leica T lenses could be produced in Germany as well The new plant in Wetzlar will provide at least a 50% increase in productivity Leica's revenue doubled in the three years after 2009 Leica produces around 1000 film cameras per year, 60% of them are sold in Japan On a potential full frame Leica T based camera, Leica's CEO answered: "Let's wait and see... Whatever I say can be misinterpreted. Might Leica show up with a full-format camera at some point, with an autofocus? Yes. Don't ask me about the design." Why should I eat my heart out? All sounds good. The T is an AF camera and it's only natural they would introduce a FF body in the future, which I will probably buy by the way, as a back up to my M. What's wrong with that? edwardkaraa Posted June 2, 2014 Share #107 Posted June 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I used to feel the same way but I have been persuaded by the T that the touch interface is easier and far more intuitive than the existing M system where menus are buried and one can never remember what is uder "Set" and what is under "Menu". I also swore I would never use a touchscreen on a phone as I was a Blackberry keyboard fan. Then I got an iPhone and I would never go back. So never say never. It's exactly because of my iPad (on which I'm typing this post) that I dislike touchscreens. I'm genuinely happy for you that you changed your mind, but as far as I'm concerned, that would be a very very unlikely possibility.

tobey bilek Posted June 2, 2014 Share #110 Posted June 2, 2014 No but they will migrate the electronic interface which I consider very slick. Steve Huff has a U Tube video demo.
wattsy Posted June 3, 2014 Share #111 Posted June 3, 2014 Leica produces around 1000 film cameras per year, 60% of them are sold in Japan That's quite interesting (though, thinking about it, not all that surprising).
