250swb Posted April 5, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 5, 2014 Good grief, what was all the fuss about? Oh I know, it will be an ideal 'back up' body, NOT! Steve
barjohn Posted April 5, 2014 Share #4 Posted April 5, 2014 Looks like Steve Huff's earlier sneak peek was right. Huff's It looks like a Sony NEX 3 done more garishly without a built in EVF.
jplomley Posted April 6, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 6, 2014 Leica have completely lost the plot.
plasticman Posted April 6, 2014 Share #6 Posted April 6, 2014 I think this is someone at Leica doing some mischievous playing around with the rumor sites. Not only does that look like a horrendously ugly camera, the whole thing about the body being made in Germany while the lenses(!) are made in Asia just rings totally false. This is all so @ss-backwards that it just has to be a joke.
jaapv Posted April 6, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Who knows.? If it is really the thing I think it will not be to the taste of their current customer base.
andybarton Posted April 6, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 6, 2014 If you don't like it, don't buy it.
jaapv Posted April 6, 2014 Share #9 Posted April 6, 2014 That is incontrovertible. Leica wanted to look for new customers, so this is it, I guess. If it is indeed it. I wonder what else they will reveal on the 24th.
250swb Posted April 6, 2014 Share #10 Posted April 6, 2014 I wonder what else they will reveal on the 24th. An ostrich half case to go with it and a limited edition designed by the creator of the Austin Allegro. Steve
barjohn Posted April 6, 2014 Share #11 Posted April 6, 2014 It will undoubtedly usher in Leica's move away from the fat M design to the svelte Sony designs.
Paul J Posted April 6, 2014 Share #12 Posted April 6, 2014 I actually don't mind the design. It's hard to make it out from this picture anyway. If that is a solid piece of machined aluminium, or something like, I bet it's going to feel nice to use.

krooj Posted April 6, 2014 Share #14 Posted April 6, 2014 You know, my initial reaction to this leak was, "eww," but on further reflection: it's not that bad looking, will be well made, and it's defining a new mount! There's going to be a new suite of lenses to look forward to, and this won't be the only body. Let's wait and see...
ynp Posted April 6, 2014 Share #15 Posted April 6, 2014 Unless you're somewhere warm and your hands begin to perspire! Or somewhere freezing cold. ...and than it will be a good excuse to buy an Italian Half-Case...in metallic silver crocodile leather and a chain instead of a strap. rosuna Posted April 7, 2014 Share #16 Posted April 7, 2014 You cannot go to the market with a mediocre product at this moment. The competition is shipping high quality products, with strong differentiation elements. This leaked camera looks like a low range NEX... years after Sony presented the first NEX! But a simple -low quality- picture does not tell the complete story...

No, you won't have any problems holding the camera in freezing conditions. Letting go of it might prove tricky though!
LocalHero1953 Posted April 7, 2014 Share #18 Posted April 7, 2014 With my 20:20 foresight, I have read an email from Dr Kaufmann to his wife on 25th April 2014: "................and today we announced to the world's media and Leica aficionados a new firmware upgrade for the M240 that fixes the embarrassing bug that stops users using a 3 second delayed release instead of the 2 second release. Oh and we also gave them a gold wrapped, Leica badged, chocolate Sony. You should have seen their faces - how we laffed!"
imsilly Posted April 7, 2014 Share #19 Posted April 7, 2014 I figured the Vario X thingy, was a test bed for the new T camera. I guess I figured wrong. That would have made sense. As a camera the only real disappointment was the lens and an interchangeable lens camera would have solved that issue. If this is really the new T type (and I think it is, too many sites have pointed towards that) then Leica have really screwed up. Essentially it looks like a Sony Nex from a couple of years ago, minus an EVF. My best guess is that it will perform worse then the Sony a7 line and cost more. I really don't understand who Leica are aiming their cameras at, it clearly isn't photographers.

I felt that the X Vario was a pretty lame concept and execution, overall, from a market perspective (really niche)... But... I don't think I have seen a better AF zoom. Ever. I would not abandon Hope that the form factor will be more X-like than NEx like
