arvin Posted December 23, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 23, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have had my M for only a week and all the photos now has a blue horizontal line across. Does anyone know what's the problem? I guess the sensor have issue, right? If so, Does anyone know what generally happens after? Does Leica replaces the camera? How long will it take again? I waited like 6 months for this Camera, I hope it won't take another six months. BTW, I'm from Australia and apology for my English. Thanks Welcome, dear visitor! Mr_Jones Posted December 23, 2013 Share #2 Posted December 23, 2013 No doubt someone with experience of this fault will be able to give you more of an idea of the time it takes to fix but it does need to be returned to Leica to have the dead pixel mapped out. As far as I know it could be a single pixel which has failed but it takes out the whole line of pixels. Sorry to see you have this fault so early on. arvin Posted December 23, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted December 23, 2013 I am just curious about this. how will they "mapped out" the dead pixel? Replace the sensor? or? Maybe I will ask the shop to give me a new unit instead of me waiting again! sigh.....
dugby Posted December 23, 2013 Share #4 Posted December 23, 2013 Sorry to see your blue line. Out of curiosity, which lens took that photo ? and what f-stop ?
jaapv Posted December 23, 2013 Share #5 Posted December 23, 2013 Mapping out is a software operation. Only if the number of mapped out pixels exceeds the tolerance the sensor will be replaced.
arvin Posted December 23, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted December 23, 2013 Sorry to see your blue line. Out of curiosity, which lens took that photo ? and what f-stop ? I used the 35mm summliux. I tried all settings from f1.4 to f11 with all ISO settings.
arvin Posted December 23, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted December 23, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mapping out is a software operation. Only if the number of mapped out pixels exceeds the tolerance the sensor will be replaced. So is it like hiding the dead pixels with some sort of software algorithm? Will it happened again if this is how they fixes the issue? Maybe I just get my money back since it's with 45 days! Sigh.......
Olsen Posted December 23, 2013 Share #8 Posted December 23, 2013 This is not the typical unmapped pixel line issue. These lines og vertical and have a Bright colour. To me it looks more like something on the glas protecting the sensor. Have you used sensor 'Swabs'? Or touched the sensor glas with something? It could well be that the glas is broken or has a scratch.
earleygallery Posted December 23, 2013 Share #9 Posted December 23, 2013 I wouldn't accept that on a new camera. Return it for a replacement or refund.
jaapv Posted December 24, 2013 Share #10 Posted December 24, 2013 So is it like hiding the dead pixels with some sort of software algorithm? Will it happened again if this is how they fixes the issue? Maybe I just get my money back since it's with 45 days! Sigh....... You should search the forum. Every consumer grade sensor will have dead pixels from the start, the higher the quality aka price, the fewer. (A sensor without dead pixels would cost tens of thousands of dollars). Those are mapped out, i.e. averaged with the neighbouring pixels in the factory before delivery. The maximum number to be mapped out is the tolerance I referred to. During the life of the sensor it can happen that cosmic radiation damages a few pixels. Either they get mapped out as well, or, if too many, the sensor gets replaced. A sensor can leave the factory in perfect state and reach the customer with a dead pixel line sustained in transit. High altitude flights, especially transpolar, will increase the risk of such damage. Some manufacturers ship their cameras by sea for that reason. Pixel mapping can be regarded as maintenance, although quite a few users simply are lucky. But … your line is horizontal. Normally a dead pixel line is vertical. You should return the camera and either get another or insist on speedy repair.

The lense had not been removed since day one after I put it on.

bephoto Posted December 25, 2013 Share #14 Posted December 25, 2013 I had the same problem back in M8 days and the dealer changed the camera for me but I'm not sure it was a dealer treat or Leica's Policy.
