Should have got an R6 or SL then, serve you right for buying an automated lump of ugliness in the first place...!!! :D:p

IMHO the R8/R9 where great cameras. And the R lenses of that period are amazing.

The combo was usually heavy but really ergonomic.

I took a lot of pictures of musicals during the last 20 years and the ease of use in almost total darkness with two R8 or R9 equipped with lenses like the 280/2,8, 180/2 and 70-180/2.8 was the best. I had a F4 and F5 before and it was not to be compared.

I now use two EOS 5D III with Canon lenses. The results are great (better) but the ergonomics are not there.

I really miss a R10 with the M sensor.

The ergonomics of the M + EVF2 + adapter M/R are ok for landscape with a tripod but that's about it.

I didn't have a chance to do it today. I'll go and buy a scrunchie tomorrow. Do I have to look for some specific one or any would do?

I bought a scrunchie today, but obiousuly a wrong one as it doesn't cover the mount properly. I'll have to find some thicker one.

pink ones work best- and the bigger and scrunchier the better. Glitter and rhinestones are optional.
I changed mine to pink to match the case......but thanks for the tip anyway

Sorry Steve I have to disagree with you on this one.

I love my SL, but I prefer the R8 layout, sits in my hand beautifully, simply a classic beauty.

In my strong opinion, this is the design (R8/9) that Leica should have taken into the Digital world, but It's to late now I'am afraid, Solms prefered to place a new power plant into an 1954 M3

Thank goodness Leica (Solms) are not running the German Motor car industry.

Cheers

Ken.

I like the idea of a small DSLR- like the Minolta XD-7- with aperture and shutter priority. That camera is pretty much as small as the Leica M cameras- and even the manual Rokkor SLR lenses were not much larger than Leica lenses...

The new Nikon DSLR is working towards that idea- though I don't think they got it quite yet- would be good to see the next itteration of the idea... I was using my old XD-7 the other day and it dawned on me that the split microprism focusing is pretty similar to a rangefinder type focus system... even more useful for certain subjects... what this has to do with the subject of this thread is beyond me.

... Also, it is unconscionable that a tourist board would leave access to a prime shooting site in such a dangerous state. Rock climbing, incoming tides - the local council should install a stable viewing platform and steps down to it. I'm sure Neil's disappointment would have been vastly reduced if the photo had been taken at the end of a leisurely stroll.

I hope the OP doesn't abandon Leica and this forum. I have been blitzing all the 240 treads for the last month due to an enforced convalescence (I dropped my week old M on its first trip to Paris and it won't return from camera hospital until the end of January); Neil's self deprecating humour is one of the few bright sparks amongst the egomaniacal nit-picking that blights many of the treads.

Forgot to mention that I tried the Nikon 300mm f2.8 on the M with the 30 buck Chinese adapter and it was a disaster ..................both adapter and M are currently in an bad state of heath, hence NO uploads from NDWgolf

Wonder if the Noctilux will work on the D3s

… Wonder if the Noctilux will work on the D3s

I doubt it, Neil, because the 28.7 mm distance from the rear pupil to the sensor means that the Noctilux would need to sit too far back in the D3s and you'd need to mount it with a hacksaw and Dremel.:o

I think you are doing a disservice to Surge (he certainly has been thrashed enough), after all he was disputing the light leak not the camera system. Granted his methodology might be questionable. With respect to iPhone Photography however - I blogged in Dec 2010 (a few weeks after Hipstamatic dropped) that the new Photo Apps would change photography. Not necessarily for Pros, but certainly for the average person. I stated that these new Apps gave you the option of film types w/o having to PP. Since then even motte Apps have become available. I use several on a regular basis. I have shot over 8K (over the past 3 years) images with various Apps., that is in addition the +200K with my regular cameras. I find that they can be very creative (i.e. even some fashion photog spreads have been shot with, books have been illustrated with, images shot with these Apps) and immediate. I have even sold a series in various galleries of images shot with them. One significant concept to bear in mind that creativity is not dictated by the equipment you use, rather the image you convey.
