Can anyone recommend a cover for the manual?

Mine is starting to show unsightly fingerprints since

taking it out of the box :(

Keep your "paper" manual in the box...

Just download PDF of it on your smart phone, mobile device or lap top. You'll have it with you all the time and keep the printed version mint.v:D

Whenever I sell a Leica camera or lens second hand I am told that it's worth more with the box. However, the box alone has no value. Can someone explain the logic of this?

That's simply not true. You simply have to be patient and watch the value of your box mature.

Boxes are long-term investments - for the serious pension-minded investor.

To keep your box in perfect collectible condition, you need to get a Luigi case for it - or a Zhou if you want to save a little money.

Your M240 box will start to attract interest on the market when the camera is discontinued and the next M is introduced.

Those things you used to keep the Landrover seats level with, Tom.:D

Pete.

Off topic I know (and I apologise) but in response to farnz here, this brings back a memory (from about 30 years ago) of a friend that actually used a couple of novels wrapped in tape to raise a fatigued leaf spring suspension on an old Landy....

It is well known that Mopane tree wood has just the right amount of springiness to do a temporary repair on a broken Landrover spring. ;)

This has been an hilarious thread. Thanks for all the LAUGHS. :D

This is an unhelpful and flippant attitude towards a very depressing thread about the failure of Leica quality and the trashing of ordinary people's reasonable expectations.

It is not very nice to mock the afflicted.

A good many years ago the gear lever of my land rover snapped off in deepest Somalia. My driver carved a new one from palm wood, complete with ball and peg to engage with the changer. It got us home.

OOT, I know, but there are no rules in this thread.

I am also one of the afflicted ( not really). I think the thread is very funny. Do you really think I am mocking the other people? If so, I am not. I just find loads of laughs in this thread. Oh, and regarding the box, and on a frank level, my Rolex came in a leather box. I think the Leica should come in a leather box too. After all once all is said and done we are all in at about 15k with the camera and a couple of lenses. Leather boxes? Yep! :)

I don't think that people find very much to laugh at here. These people have invested large sums - sacrifice their quality of life and place stress on their relationships to own that perfect box - and then when it arrives, it is a huge disappointment.

It is a crushing blow and I can empathise with their chagrin.

I was disappointed to find that Leica had messed up my lovely, expensive, pristine box by putting some sort of camera inside it. I don't know if it was a well-meaning freebie or some sort of misplaced advertising stunt.:(

I think that it is there to make you feel a little better about the box
