ModernMan Posted October 31, 2013 Share #121 Posted October 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why not direct WiFi access from the new M with the posibility to send smaller jpg files direct to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr etc. WIFI should be regarded as a "permission to play" fundamental feature. I expect that it would add very little cost, given that its been engineered into so many consumer devices. I'm more interested in wireless tethered shooting via WIFI, than direct access to Facebook etc..
Advertisement Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Hi ModernMan, Take a look here What do you want in the next digital M?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Leicaiste Posted October 31, 2013 Share #122 Posted October 31, 2013 Would like an M1 reincarnated. For those relative newbies, it would be an M without view, or rangefinder, perhaps with in EVF. Should be less expensive than M and serve to do close ups, teles and bellows work to accompany M for rangefinder lenses. Realize might be more like some EVIL cameras but I know of at least one person who would buy...assuming priced under $5,000 Ed Ed, The Leica M1 had a viewfinder and fixed frames for the 35 and 50mm, but not rangefinder. I suppose that you want something more like the Leica MD, MDa or MD-2 + EVF ? But with an improved manuel focusing system. A la Fuji X-E1/X-E2 or Olympus E-P5 but full frame ? Or something like the Sony A7 ? Lucien

Rick Posted October 31, 2013 Share #124 Posted October 31, 2013 I would want the next digital M when it arrives in a few years... to be sold as a kit with the M-R Adaptor and MF Handgrip. Then, I could sell the new digital M and use the accessories on my M240!
Guest borge Posted October 31, 2013 Share #125 Posted October 31, 2013 Please switch the Play and LV buttons. Dante I would actually like the ISO button to be where the LV button is today. It is the button I want fastest access to, and the LV button is always easy to locate without having to "feel your way there" or look at the buttons. Paul J Posted November 6, 2013 Share #127 Posted November 6, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, I changed my mind, I will put up with 24MP. Just give us a camera that works and is reliable. One that doesn't fall to bits after a couple years too please.
JimKasson Posted November 6, 2013 Share #128 Posted November 6, 2013 Here is the result of a design study from the famed Lirpa Labs engineering team that shows what could be done to get the digital M camera back to its roots. pieterpronk Posted November 7, 2013 Share #130 Posted November 7, 2013 Yeah, it's almost as stupid and obsessively backward as making a camera that can only make black and white photographs! ...oh wait... I have one of those... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

One that doesn't fall to bits after a couple years too please. Well, I had one literally fall to bits in a few weeks. Lug nut issue. Leica perhaps had better strengthen their QC/QA Departments very soon for camera bodies and lens design/construction. And while they are at it perhaps get some more software engineers for that new building.
keithlaban.co.uk Posted November 7, 2013 Share #132 Posted November 7, 2013 What do I want in the next digital M? Well, in August 2012 I made a list of specs I'd like the new Leica to have and was surprised that most of my wishes came true. Here are a few that didn't together with some other improvements.. (1)Grid screen (please give us this as a firmware update for the M240) (2)Better EVF (please give us this as a firmware update for the M240) (3)A better way of accessing exposure compensation (please give us this as a firmware update for the M240) (4)ISO 50 and 100 with improvement in image quality over current ISO200, if necessary at the expense of higher ISO (5)MOVABLE FOCUS POINT IN LIVEVIEW! BrendanD Posted November 7, 2013 Share #133 Posted November 7, 2013 As you will notice the Sony has a DMF (Dumb Mother Fucker) and MF (Mother Fucker) choice. I think that is why. I haven't figured out what the AF stands for. Apart from that, I don't like the f-word used in writing, thought it is much less political incorrect in Europe (where most people will use the f-word about anything without causing the stir that it does if used in the US for example). I know they are soooo strange in the USA. You can carry guns and not have proper health care, but its considered very bad to swear a bit.... crazy country! BrendanD Posted November 7, 2013 Share #134 Posted November 7, 2013 Back on topic... I would like: - A SONY FF CMOS sensor adapted for the RF. - The latest V4 Olympus EVF instead of a mechanical RF, with a lot of thought put into high quality focus peaking. - ISO, SS, F stop (estimated) and EV read out in the EVF. - One touch multi spot metering, Like the old Olympus OM4. The glass is wonderful, but I think Leica need to move on now from the old RF concept and try something new. Keep the last iteration of the RF going for choice, but now innovate.... algrove Posted November 7, 2013 Share #136 Posted November 7, 2013 I have decided I do not want the next digital M. This one works so poorly for $7k it makes me sick to my stomach.
BrendanD Posted November 7, 2013 Share #137 Posted November 7, 2013 I have decided I do not want the next digital M. This one works so poorly for $7k it makes me sick to my stomach. I wouldn't go so far as that, but I have divided my camera use in two. monochrom and leica glass Olympus OMD and mZD glass. Quite different beasts, but they both work for me. I got into the OMD whilst waiting for an M and it made me change my mind utterly about getting an M. Love the monochrom though...
IkarusJohn Posted November 8, 2013 Author Share #138 Posted November 8, 2013 To my mind, Leica has confused its M camera with the M240. The next M should be just that - top of the line, purist CRF with all the electronic gubbins dumped. So really an M9 with improved sensor and rangefinder and software. All manual, no video, no live view etc. They should the release a mirror less, rangefinder-less electronic full frame camera to rival the A7R, with an M mount and some zooms, macro and even AF lenses in M mount. I'd buy one.
jaapv Posted November 8, 2013 Share #139 Posted November 8, 2013 I wouldn’t buy one. The value of the M is that it is arguably the best RF camera Leica ever built combined with an enhanced versatility that makes it a more effective tool. If I want to go purist I will take my Monochrom, or, even more to the point, my IIIf. I’d buy the mirrorless camera you propose, though, as a second string to the M. Exodies Posted November 15, 2013 Share #140 Posted November 15, 2013 Oof. Read through the thread to make sure it hadn't already been requested - someone got close by asking for a square sensor. What I would like is a circular sensor, 43 mm diameter, to capture everything the lens provided. I believe we only have rectangular sensors because circular film would have been wasteful. Needs a circular viewfinder too. What do you mean the shutter would be impossible to build? Just needs a little ingenuity. I'd discard the screen and tether to an iphone for all menus. This would prolly necessitate an EVF, so it would have two built in viewfinders. The customisation options should stretch to more than just the paintwork and wallpaper. Finally, they should open-source the firmware (maybe they have, I'm new to Leica; is the source available for download?). That would make not having a proper user manual unimportant.
