I have traveled to Istanbul probably 15 times over the last 10 years, and have always purchased my visa on arrival. The queues are usually very efficient and you should not need to wait too long, but you do need to have the correct change. They will accept payment in Euros, pounds, or dollars. Last time I went it cost me 10£, and the time before that 15€. As you say you can also pay 20$

Try being an Aussie.

The fee is US$60.

It's quite cheap.

The Turkish passport is one of the most expensive papers on the World. Its cost is around 250 USD. On the other hand, it's one of the least useful passports.

By the way, all of the Turkish citizens must be pay a departure fee for their abroad trips.

So, welcome to Turkey...

odeon, I accept all of that.

My 'beef' is the apparent discrimination towards Australians relative to British and Americans who get the same visa for one third of what we pay. Since Galipoli, there has always been a 'love affair' between Turks and Aussies, I have gratefully experienced it on a number of occasions, but I feel this one is a shot across our bows. ;)

Realizing it is not about to change, I will need to squirrel a little harder if I wish to enter your beautiful country. Such is life.

Fortunately, for me it will not be anywhere near as difficult as the first Aussies discovered. ;)

A note from the British Foreign Office for forum members who may not be in the habit of carrying photographic identification:

"It is illegal not to carry some form of photographic ID in Turkey. Carry a photocopy of your passport with you at all times."

Pete.
