I cannot wait to rent the A7s, and neither my 35 Cron ASPH nor 50LUX can wait either.

The conclusions about A7r image quality and Leica lenses are fairly overblown from a practical standpoint for me, but it still is fair to say you get modestly better corners on a digital M. Modestly better.

I rarely care about corners, but would be interested to see how the A7s manages this issue. I love the A7 interface, si this camera is a welcome addition

Hi, this looks promising. And the SONY lens correction app is available for the A7S, too:

Why would I pay $10 for something which requires me to select my own distortion correction, vignetting and chromatic aberration corrections?

This something which many (most?) other systems include.

Hi, I just got an admin note:

Die Ansage ist: Keine Sony Bilder mehr von Dir im Leica Forum.

(No more SONY pictures from you in the Leica Forum).

Goodbye from me ...

Maybe you wouldn't?

Hi, night in Berlin (SONY A7, Leica Summarit 2,5/35, f8, JPEG ooc, iso auto).

The 35mm Leica Summarit is my favourite 35 on the A7. The Voigtländer Nokton

1,2/35 V1 shows the same performance from f4 on, is faster, but heavier ...

We see some flares, which can happen. With the A7 I have produced only green ones up to now.

In marketing one would say "The SONY A7 performs consistently" ...;)

Yes there is a resemblance thanks for sharing.

Personally, I don't think people should look at Steve Huff for photo reviews.

On the side though, I liked the A7S's low-light capability, but the camera as a whole just didn't jive with me.

Ditto. I found the ergonomics and usage of this series really irritating and the camera and lenses are lying unused waiting for 'something I can't do with my Leica M or T'.

The safe hasn't been opened in 9 months ......

K-H,

Thank you for linking to my thread on Fredmiranda.com All input is more than welcome in the thread. I should make appearances again and frequently on the forum.:o I have been shooting an assortment of R lenses on my A7r and largely my Minolta CLE MC 40mm f2 M-Rokkor lens. But, though the M-Roikkor is essentially a Leica C 40mm f2 Summicron I am supposed to be prohibited from posting those images here. :(

By the way, I am still working on ways of limiting the affects of vibration when using lenses of 100mm and longer on my A7r.

Many thanks Rich! All very useful information. I wondered about the following quote from your post:

"Additionally and this may be of interest to many Leica R users, Steffan of Leica Camera indicated that I should keep (and not sell) all of my Leica R lenses hinting that Leica may actually have something coming for the R lenses. But we have heard this before and Steffan would not provide any additional information or any idea as to when such a camera may be coming."

And I don't know what to make of that.

Indeed, it would be great if Leica came through with such a camera.

Yup, there are still shutter shock problems with my A7R for long lenses, especially in portrait orientation on a tripod. I am hoping that Sony will come out soon with a follow-on model that doesn't suffer that problem.

Thanks again for keeping us informed.

K-H,

My friend Jim Lager, the well known author of 8 Leica books was with me at the time that Steffan made the comments. Steffan was also asking us about things that we thought were short comings of the M240 and things that many of us needed. So, what was implied was heard by several of us and possibly some of the ideas that Jim and I suggested, could possibly be discussed for such a camera or the follow up to the M240. Jim also asked the question would such a camera be available in his lifetime. Jim is in good health now, but he is 73. Steffan's comment to Jim's question was yes. But, we will have to wait and see.

As to the issues with the vibrations with the tripod mounted longer lenses with the A7r, yes the problem is worse with the camera in the portrait orientation. I have been experimenting with pulling down on the RRS L bracket attached to the camera with shutter speeds between 1/125 and about 1/20 second with some success. I have also been experimenting with a modified version of the RRS long lens system (modification using ProMediaGear back to back clamps) giving a 2 point support system:

Long Lens Support Package with dual QR clamps

used alone as well as the modified RRS long lens system with an 11" articulated arm with the smaller ProMediaGear Arca Swiss type QR clamps at each end of the arm. The Clamps and the articulated arm are then positioned and locked attached to both the 10" RRS rail of their long lens system and the other end attached to the RRS L bracket of the camera. This system results in a 3 point support system for the front of the lens, under the lens QR (or Novoflex rotating ASTAT rotating collar) and the third point under the camera itself.
