One thing I have overlooked with this camera ....... APPLICATIONS......

Sony has a downloadable Lens Correction application for use within the later NEX range of cameras to set profiles that correct for vignetting, distortion, chromatic aberration and lateral red/blue casts ..... so you can save a set of profiles just like the manually selectable Leica M9/M ones....

It is not clear if this only works with JPG output or actually appends something to the RAW files .....

I suspect/hope this will appear for the A7 range as well at some stage ...

Anyone used it on a Nex5 or 6 ??

Excellent question. It would be interesting to see the uncorrected raw images side by side.

Well not really because the profiles to perfectly correct these lenses don't exist for the A7/A7R and any they clearly don't smear on the Leica bodies as that can't be corrected with such profiles.

Have you tried to download it to the A7r yet. It seems to not be compatible yet?

So when you say "this is the reason I use LEICA" it tweaks my critical thinking module and upsets my "it's all on faith" balance. WHICH Leica? ONLY Leica? Disappears on any other body? Really? You know?

Image quality, rendering, the degree of pp you can do without ending with something plastic-looking, etc. are all subjective criteria. So here we agree (I think). If you add small size and low weight for a FF digital body as a criterion for hiking/skiing, as in my case (and as stated in the post you are referring to), well, then there are not that many alternatives. Actually none but Leica M9/MM/M240 before A7® entered the scene some weeks ago. I could equally well use gear from other vendors or combinations thereof. No problem at all, given a decent balance between wight/size/quality (and simplicity, I should add). And I have a few RF lenses from Zeiss, Voigtlander, Contax, Pentax, etc., so I know there is a world beyond Leica ;). That being said, I am happy with most of the Leica gear I have tested and used. Yes, happy (and quality) is subjective. But using and playing around with the output from MM or M240, paired with 21SEM, 50APO and 90 Macro-Elmar triple, make me more happy than frustrated. Which should be the case for a hobby and a hobbyist...

21 Summilux ASPH - I upped the exposure slightly. Not happy with the focus (I was in a bit of a hurry). Vignetting and colour shift, as it came out of the camera :)

Now that's bigger than my boat!

I have skied, hiked and slept under the stars for weeks with both Hasselblads and Leicas.

In the last few years I have spent maybe 36-40 months in various locals in Europe. I have seen one Leica M240 and that was at CS Solms. We are in the minority folks.

Sure. Let me email Stephen and have him post a M240 + 21 SE + current firmware picture to show the improvement in the edges. He was one of the beta testers that reported better results on that lens.

Sorry for the delay in getting a couple of M240 + 21SEM with FW2.0.0.11 posted. Nothing exciting about these images, just examples for discussion.

I have had zero issues with magenta edge when using the 21SEM, just minor vignetting which is easily corrected in post. No color or vignetting adjustment to either of these images, just exposure and levels.

John,

Is the first ship the Starke designed Yacht "A" owned by Andrey Melnichenko?

Or did you buy it from him after the GFC?

Fantastic ship on the outside but very tacky inside, or did you renovate the interior?

Yes, it's the A. I have had nothing to do with it (yet). Hoping to get aboard for a look sometime.

Thanks. Implying that there are some variations between bodies and/or lenses; I am one of those that get miscolouring towards the edges with M240 (w/newest firmware) and 21SEM. My M240 is going to Solms for some fixes, so I may request a check of the sensor alignment as well.

My posts in this thread (#2758 & #2759, page 138) demonstrate no such colour shifts with my M using the 21 SEM (and Summilux). Very disappointing that this is happening on yours.
