wlaidlaw Posted April 19, 2007 Share #61 Posted April 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Flash options on Camera Menu Having tried to use an SF 24-D flash this evening and been confused by the fact that it seem to be working oddly, with the camera insisting it wanted to use 1/24 second rather than 1/250", I started to check the menu items. I note we can now select various synchronization speeds or lens dependent. Maybe this was always there but as I have only recently been able to get lens coding to work, this may now have been activated for the first time. However I think it is new and this is just one amongst quite a few changes as the firmware has been upgraded. Does the Forum think that it might be a good idea if Leica produced a PDF addendum to the instruction manual which we could then print out? After all, the manual was written in the bad old days of 1.06 and a lot has changed and improved since then. Wilson

Irakly Shanidze Posted April 19, 2007 Share #62 Posted April 19, 2007 after installing 1.102 firmware i am having click wheel skipping and also sometimes an attempt to magnify a file on a screen leads to an opposite result: a bunch of small images. this is, however, nothing compared to a vertical hairline band crossing about 2/3 of an image that now appears on all my photos shot with ISO640 and above. it is a possibilitry that it's a newly developed hardware problem, but this coincidence is way too striking. B&W Posted April 20, 2007 Share #63 Posted April 20, 2007 The LCD on my M8 does flash white in a quarter of a second each time I turn on the main switch Never noticed that before The camera also did freeze after 10 shots the first session after upgraded. I had to take the battery out to fix it, and works fine after doing so. The LCD still flash 6 out of 10 times when turning the main switch on:( This is when turning on and off several times in a short time
waterlenz Posted April 21, 2007 Share #64 Posted April 21, 2007 My M8 still has the photon 'OD' issue when pointed at the sun. I got two bona fide Leica cut filters today (thank you Tony!). Here is a shot with the filter on a 35 Summilux ASPH at 5.6 taken this afternoon into the sun, see the bar next to the sun. New FW with detection and correction enabled. Flare is not too bad. The only pp is conversion to jpeg via LR. See purple sparkle. Welcome, dear visitor! msadat Posted April 21, 2007 Share #65 Posted April 21, 2007 it seems to do a good job with putting your name on the bottom right side of the image though My M8 still has the photon 'OD' issue when pointed at the sun. waterlenz Posted April 21, 2007 Share #66 Posted April 21, 2007 it seems to do a good job with putting your name on the bottom right side of the image though I have LR set to do that by default when saving to jpg, but not good for portrait format! Hiyas, and I too have found only recently that "pulling the ring" clockwise to zoom has the opposite effect(NOT zoom), as if I "pushed the ring" counter-clockwise... this with f/w 1.102 and never with 1.06 nor 1.09. I've not seen the "zebra stripes", however I have "Auto Preview" set "Off"(and I suspect those who see these have this item set "on"). <not-a-problem-so-skip-me> Now out on a very slim limb: it would be nice to have a menu option which turns the "light meter" LEDs off... I'm "old school" and still using an M4 and M6(without battery). In very low light situs, the blinking LED(due to the meter's insensitivity) is annoying when I am able to capture a reasonable image. But hey, Leica's got this "optimal JPEG" bent, and that means "do-it-all-in-camera-as-if-we-are-both-means-and-result"... and some wish for a "ala carte lens character" menu item? Oh, but that's of the "other" thread </not-a-problem-so-skip-me> rgds, Dave
harmsr Posted April 29, 2007 Share #68 Posted April 29, 2007 BTT - hoping Leica reads these threads and will fix some of the minor bugs in 1.102 quickly. 1) Orange & black horizontal bands on preview of first image taken. Frequency occassional - appears only if shooting right after red light on card stops. Actual image is fine when played back. 2) Occassional image preview that is not the last image if shooting quickly. 3) During review of images with the wheel to change images, sometimes it skips images inconsistently. wparsonsgisnet Posted May 25, 2007 Share #69 Posted May 25, 2007 I have had two occasions on which I got venetian blinds after turning on and taking the first picture. Neither pic got saved to disk. Subsequent pix are perfect (excluding an assessment by Ansel).
eudemian Posted May 26, 2007 Share #70 Posted May 26, 2007 Just noticed the red venetian blind effect today (horizontal banding alternate black and red) on instant replay. I checked and the photo taken was fine and showed properly when reviewed later with the play button. Could it be anything to do with battery power surge (well you know what I mean? ) Just wonder what is causing this little glitch? Tom
woodyspedden Posted May 27, 2007 Share #71 Posted May 27, 2007 Just for the record I'm still getting the venetian blind effect and its brother, the red venetian blind effect, occassionally. I'm also set to 5 sec review. I wonder if the length of time the review is set for has anything to do with it. Anyone get the "VB" effect with another setting? I am set to 3 seconds and get the venetian blind effect about once in one hundred shots. Since it causes no real problems, i.e. the file is totally o.k. I just ignore it. If I need to do an LCD review for focus, exposure etc I simply take another shot. I have never seen the venetian blind effect on two consecutive shots. Ray Ray, that sounds like my camera... thanks for the summary. 2 M8 bodies, both with 1.102. WAY happier with the AWB and general feel of things, but that little uncertainty still there - especially when any of the above symptoms show... Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 27, 2007 Share #73 Posted May 27, 2007 Those three are known bugs for sure and I get all 3 on both bodies. Hopefully Leica is working on it but they certainly are aware of them
RMF Posted May 27, 2007 Share #74 Posted May 27, 2007 Can we add the "thin vertical line issue" to the list of needed fixes for the next firmware update- http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/25019-status-vertical-line-issue.html A number of users have reported it (including myself), and the line appears to happen in the same place within frame on every affected camera. Someone reported that they started seeing it with the last firmware (1.102) update. If this issue can be addressed via software in the next firmware update it would be most appreciated. Jaka Skorjanc Posted May 27, 2007 Share #75 Posted May 27, 2007 Shootist, I have the same problem with zooming of pic's but found the reason. You can not zoom the last picture till it is written to the card (you see the red led flashing on the back of the camera). This takes longer, 2-5 sec especially if you shoot DNG + JPG fine.
