Well.... As per the information in the auction, the camera is being sold by Boris Jamchtchik - another identity for a very inventive seller, operating out of Germany, Hong Kong and now under 'photoalps' ID out of Austria.

The amount of work that was spent in creating this fake is indeed astounding.

Best,

Jan

I don't understand why anyone would consider buying anything from Boris or Photo Alps. A year ago I asked about an M6TTL Millennium which by the look of some poor eBay pictures appeared to have cosmetic imperfections. Their flat answer: they could not take the camera out of its box for closer examination and confirmation, so I would have to buy it, as it were, sight unseen.

So, not surprised that here they are sinking to new depths.

I don't remember if I dealt with someone named "Boris" but a while ago I purchased, off eBay from Photo Alps, a 360mm Tele Xenar mounted in the extremely rare extension tube for my Linhof Technika 70. It arrived in like new original condition and cost me 50% of what they typically go for.

Maybe I was lucky but I do watch their auctions, even if to be amused by the subject of this thread.

other than the tasteless Nazi fetishism... I actually think the camera looks kind of cool! ;-) The 'Elmar' would look great on black digital M. Was there ever a genuine Leica that looked remotely like this? I had an Eigentum IIIG- and it was nowhere near as fancy. And I am not sure if it is the same Boris- but years ago I purchased some Moskva folding cameras out of the Ukraine from a Boris- and they were good cameras- well packed - reasonably described -and at good prices.

I suspect there are many Boris from those countries... ;) : anyway, the Moskvas 4&5 were indeed finely built MF cameras : I handled some, and my only suspect is that, in years of operation , the mechanism that extends the bellows and blocks the lens PARALLEL to film plane could prove not so reliable as the one of my 6x9 Zeiss Super Ikonta (Moskva is a copy of it) : I have had a longtime affection for folding MFs, and that mechanism can be their Achilles' heel... :o a cheap 6x9 that belonged to my mother had a +-2 degrees play of the front and a modest film pressure plate, resulting in a never right focus plane with lens wide open (and it was wide open at f 6,3... ) ; the Voigtlander Bessa II mechanism was elegant and well built, but not so reliable as Super Ikonta's (but, personally, I found the Heliar 105 better than the Tessar 105)

I know you will hate me for what I say but ... in comparison to the guy who designed the Leica M9 Hermès edition the dude who did this customization still has some rudimentary taste for colors, materials and forms (the Nazi symbols aside, of course)

Yep, colors are really appealing... better than Hermes... Red on Black is always tasty (as some recent "retouched" M does demonstrate... ;)) : now I notice also that, apart the fact that it is advertised as a Leica, there seems to be NO "Leica" writing on the body... good precaution not to incur in legal actions from Solms (*), in case Boris thinks to a regular series for sale... :D

(*) Maybe "Ernst Leitz Wetzlar" is no more a protected trademark.

This gentleman Boris is well known in Germany....

Especially at the Fotobörsen.......

Offering this camera as a Russian Leica is a joke, and Ebay should be warned about this!

Accompanied a friend to a Photobörse in Stuttgart some 15 years ago. Someone made me an offer for a Hasselblad SWC which was a fraction for what it sold later during the day. My friend, who is a dealer, later returned to his little table (after looking for bargains himself ;) ), that I was left in charge of. When I showed him the bidder, who continued his tour, he said: "Boris!" with  .

Over a year ago I bought my new Voigtländer MF RF with the 55mm lens from his Nürnberg store for a very fair price. This year a new 2/35 Asph LTM. Both were perfect deals.
